Evan Eric Chartrand, 15, and his mother, Susan Osborne, were last seen in Elmore County’s Holtville on May 29, 2017. They lived on Waterview Lane near Highway 111 with her second husband of four years, Jerry Marshall Osborne. They have never been heard from again. Susan Osborne’s family lived out of state and, after two months without being able to contact the pair, they reported them missing on July 29. She had never gone more than a day or two before with calling or texting them. When the police went to the house to investigate the disappearances, her husband told them that his wife had decided to leave him, and a man had picked her up, according to The Charley Project. The next day, he said, the man returned to the house and removed furniture and other belongings. Susan’s car was left behind, however. Evan was supposed to start his sophomore year at Holtville High School in the fall. The two cases remain unsolved and foul play is suspected.

Is he in the military or a civilian employee? The haircut in the pic didn't seem very military. I would think the military would be involved with the case if he was active when this all took place...IMO... but I know little about military legalities.

He is a veteran and as of 2017 he was working at the local military base. Pretty sure he was a military employee.

As for bases nearby, Maxwell Air Force Base is significant.

“Like I told the detective, I wish that I could truthfully say I thought they were still here with us, but unfortunately I don’t,” Morris said. “I don’t think they’re alive anymore, because, if they were, then she would have contacted me. It’s been over a year. She would not just disappear. She wouldn’t have left (her 10-year-old daughter) Hannah Grace. She wouldn’t go without talking to her and seeing her.”

“We got together and decided to dedicate the outdoor garden and the pond in his memory, to both honor him and let his name and memory kind of continue here," said Holtville High School principal Kyle Futral. "We also want it to bring awareness to this story and keep this story out there.”

Chartrand was a student at Holtville High School before he disappeared. Futral said he remembers Chartrand as the “sweetest, most humble and kind person you could ever meet.”

Anklam said Chartrand loved fishing and would have "loved the Koi pond.”

“Evan loved fishing. That’s all he talked about," Anklam said. “I think this is amazing. The memory of Evan is going to live on forever in this school now.”

Osborne and Chartrand’s family members and friends want the same thing: justice.

• MOO There must have been a gun involved in this murder at some point for him to be able to take out both mother and son.
• I wonder if neighbors heard any gunshots that Memorial Day weekend?
• The fires were a giveaway about how bodies were disposed of but what about bullets and ballistics?

Extensive search of residence was done but the husband had remodelled the house, torn the floors, burned the furniture etc in those intervening two months.

The fact that they were missing for months before LE got involved is tragic. So much evidence lost.

Just heard the podcast with the sister in law on the new missing persons podcast. Yes with good reason Jerry is a person of interest. She mentioned suspicious searches on Jerrys computer the police wouldnt tell the family about. He cleaned the blood found in his house with chemicals that would damage DNA. Also she said that elmore county hasnt prosecuted anyone for a no body crime.

If I personally found out the house I bought was an unresolved murder scene I feel like I would end up tearing it up myself hopeful to find just a single drop of blood or something. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night!

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - It’s been nearly four years since a mother and son from Elmore County disappeared without a trace.

Susan Osborne, 42, and Evan Chartrand, 14, went missing in late May 2017 but were not officially reported missing until July 29, 2017, after family from out of state became concerned.

“Her mother reported her missing and said that it was extremely unusual that she had not heard from her, you know, in this extended period of time,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney CJ Robinson.

It’s unclear where the two were last seen, but at the time of their disappearance they were living at 60 Waterview Dr. in Wetumpka with Susan’s husband.

Robinson said shortly after they vanished, investigators found that some remodeling had been done to the home and burn piles were found on the property.

“After the time when they were reported missing there were renovations done to the house,” Robinson said. “Whether it be flooring or paint and that type of thing.”

Robinson also said, “I do believe there was some evidence of burn piles and things like that around on the property.”

Also, both Osborne’s and Evan’s belongings had been removed from the house.

“Whether those things were taken with them or were removed after they went missing is a question we may never know the answer to,” Robinson said.

People of interest have been identified in relation to their disappearance, Robinson said, but so far no one has been charged.

“It has stalled out recently,” Robinson said. “We don’t really have any new information, but we are still looking.”

For sister-in-law and aunt Melissa Canfield, justice could not come soon enough.

“I’m hoping for answers. I’m hoping for justice, and I’m hoping to find them,” Canfield said. “At this point I know they’re not with us anymore and I would love to be able to find them and lay them to rest in peace and have some closure to know that they’re not thrown out like a piece of garbage because they meant way more than that to all of us.”

Bumping for Susan and Evan. I think it’s incredibly obvious who is responsible for their disappearance and probable murder. It’s unfortunate that it took so long for them to be reported missing — the perpetrator had a long time to cover his tracks and hide or destroy the bodies. Despite his best efforts, though, I think it’s clear that Sharon and Evan didn’t just run off with some mysterious man. This case needs a prosecutor who isn’t afraid of no body murder charges. In this day and age, it should be much easier to prove that someone, especially a woman and her child, didn’t just vanish on their own and are out there hiding. I hope Sharon and Evan and everyone who loves them finds justice soon.

Recently saw this SO & EC case featured on the new "Never Seen Again" TV series. Horrible.

Honestly, there is really no mystery as to what happened here. Though no hard physical evidence that was found, the circumstantial evidence seems significant. However, with no body/bodies, I guess I can see why it would be difficult for the case to move forward. Very unfortunate.

I don’t think they can secure a warrant because they don’t have enough probable cause.

Susan Osborne and Evan Chartrand of Wetumpka have not been seen or heard from since Memorial Day 2017.

Paramount+ recently featured the case of the missing Alabama mother and son in an episode of its docuseries “Never Seen Again.”

The two are both originally from Michigan but moved to Deatsville in 2005 with Evan’s dad, according to Melissa Canfield, the sister-in-law of Susan and Evan’s aunt.

Luminol showed approx 20 indications of blood in the house..not a finger cut amount. this video says a couple of months to get blood results back. Total house renovation and furniture despite a recent inside painting. He replaced the security camera first of June. Cadaver dogs hit by the burn barrel.

Bumping! A case where it's fairly obvious what probably happened but the perp was very lucky.

This is a case that will take a prosecutor who is unafraid to charge and go to trial sans a body. I imagine LEOs are just too afraid to take the risk they go for it, it fails, and he can't be retried. It's understandable they would be.

IIRC the house has been sold and Jerry is now remarried to another woman.
