Alberto Vence

This case makes me very sad as it doesn't seem like there is really an effort to figure out who killed him. I suspect the location of his residence and his disability were a factor in how this case has been handled. All my personal opinion.

I found one news report on it: Police suspect man found in S.L. hotel was murdered

The Facts:

Age: Approximately 36

Alberto Vence lived in the Regis Hotel (at the time was more of a single occupancy for low-income folk) in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had only lived there for about a year at the time of his murder.

He was found on June 16th, 1998 in his room slumped against the wall with multiple stab wounds. The news report suggested that they originally called it a suicide they changed it to murder.

Timeline:
Friday, June 12 - Utah cold case database lists this as the last date anyone saw him and the possible date of his murder

Tuesday, June 16 - Housekeeper and part-time desk clerk find Alberto dead in his room at 9:30am. Desk Clerk claimed that neither he or the other residents heard anything.

It was reported that he was found on Tuesday but he had not been seen since the previous Saturday. This suggests his time of death could have been any time between Saturday and 9am on Tuesday when the housekeeper and desk clerk found him.

Police also reported he had been robbed "numerous times". There are other sources that suggest that this was pretty typical for this location.

Possibly unrelated: I did find a Roberto Vence that passed away in 2009 and it says in his obituary that he had a twin named Alberto. Alberto would have been the same age as Roberto so it's possible it was the same person but I don't claim to have any proof of that.
