Our opinions are galaxies apart on this one. If what I've read is correct, he was required by the court to attend anger management classes soon after the divorce and before being allowed visitation with his daughter. It evidently didn't work with this man. He strikes me as pure evil and I can't blame his ex-wife for causing him to be that way. He's acknowledged he has OCD and seems like a complete control freak who comes unglued when things don't go exactly as he wants.

I feel so bad for his daughter. Her dad is certifiable!

We agree on this statement, except I would say her dad AND Mom are certifiable.

My opinions are deeply rooted in my past. When my parents divorced, I was much better off living with my alcoholic (sometimes rageful and an alcoholic is, by definition, someone who suffers from OCD) father than with my mother who tried her damnedest to get me to hate my father. I guess like anything else, opinions like this are a matter of personal perspective!

I have actually been interested in hearing the different opinions on this.

There is even a poll on my town's newpaper asking
"Who's worse: Baldwin for how he talked to his daughter, or Basinger for allegedly making the phone message public? " and so far, most people have voted that Basinger is worse. That surprised me as most of what I have read has slammed Baldwin.
 
I can't believe I've heard so many people turn this into blaming both parents for this!!! The bottom line is he blew up and said horrible things to his 11 or 12 yr old daughter. HE DID IT regardless of how the recording was released to the public.

He's a big old bullying buffoon and needs to get some therapy. He's had this problem LONG before this incident, LONG before he had children and was involved in a nasty divorce/custody battle. HE's the one with the problem.

I'm sorry but I have never lost my temper enough with any of my children where I called them anything close to what he called her. Those are very hurtful words, especially to a young girl coming from her father. If I were her mom I would do everything in my power to see that she never saw him again until he rec'd the counseling he so obviously needs.

I remember reading an article about him years ago when he had a role on Knot's Landing. He was eventually 'let go' from that job as his demands were insane. I think he's always thought of himself as on a higher level than most and this incident with his daughter clearly shows it.

As I said earlier, I hope he sails away. He's threatened to do that for a while now. He's a windbag...

I agree. Calling your kid a pig, I mean especially the way girls are these days about looks. What a kick to your self esteem.

Oh, I'm so jealous! I still have to figure out what we are eating, then ball practice, then to grandma's for a visit.

I totally agree. This is about verbal child abuse and the abuser is Baldwin, not Basinger or the divorce.
 
Baldwin say's he sorry for berating his daughter. yeah, he's sorry he got caught is the way I look at it.. Why on earth would he call his 11 year old daughter a pig.. There is no need for the name calling.. NONE!!! I'm sure if he was a decent man he would not have any problem having custody of his daughter.. Just the mere fact he's been battling over it tells me something.. Any decent parent that is divorced with kids, I would HOPE they would want what is best for their kids. I can't say I blame Kim for keeping her daughter away from him.. If I recall correctly, I think Alex has been in fights before with photographers and such.. He's known to have anger issues BIG TIME! No surprise there..

He was abusive to Kim in public many times. His temper is downright scary! :eek:
