Family of Murdered Son Search For Answers 5 Years Later
2015
''George McMurray recalled the night of August 30th, 2010, when the phone rang just before midnight''.
George learned his son, 31-year-old Alfred "Chad" McMurray, had been murdered.
"The phone call itself was hard," the father said through his tears, "But the hardest thing I ever done, was tell my wife that our son was dead. I think about that every day of my life."
Chad, a Greensboro native, moved to South Florida for a fresh start. He was passionate about cooking and was on his way to completing a culinary degree at Le Cordon Bleu in Miramar. The soon-to-be chef lived with his partner of one year, Shannon Prewitt, in a house in Oakland Park.
"You know how they say you just know? I just knew," said Prewitt, who described Chad as the love of his life.
Prewitt was in St. Louis on a business trip the night of Chad's murder.
"I called him and he was watching TV and I told him I was going to dinner and we agreed that I would talk to him after dinner," Prewitt said.
When Prewitt called later that night, Chad never answered. A mutual friend stopped by the home they shared.
"They found him, inside our home. He had been shot," said Prewitt.
Detective with the Broward Sheriff's Office said the shooting was "execution style". The 6'3, muscular Chad, was found restrained and shot in the back of the head. The case was classified a robbery, gone wrong.''
Clues were limited. Chad's silver Toyota Tacoma was found several miles away from the crime scene, scrubbed clean of any evidence. The physical evidence found inside the home has not been matched to a suspect. Five year later, there are several theories, but very few answers.
"We know that he knew his killer," said Prewitt as he explained there was no forced entry to the home.''
Family Speaks On 5 Year Anniversary Of Oakland Park Cold Case Murder
''Chad was a big guy. Investigators believe it may have taken two or more people to pull off the murder. They also think Chad may have known his killers, even letting them in the house.
When it was done, Chad’s computer was missing, along with his 2006 silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. That truck was found not long after at the Brampton Court Apartments in the 4400 block of NW 19th Street in Lauderhill. The complex is now called Summit Palm. Investigators believe the key to solving the crime is in that parking lot.''
