Car mechanics & tattoo artists use chlororform for CLEANING purposes.

Ok, that's why I asked. I've worked in the automotive field for 30 yrs. 18 years in a general auto repair shop and 12 years in wholesale auto parts sales. Never have I seen chloroform used in or for sale in an automotive setting. It's a very dangerous chemical to handle and auto repair shops are not equipped nor would they want to deal with it. Shops use companies such as Safety Clean that bring in and service there cleaning solvent apparatus. When the solvent gets dirty the Safety Clean people come in and remove it and leave clean solvent to clean parts with.

Then I heard that a diaper wet with urine & pool chlorine could/would produce chloroform fumes......:banghead: ????

Remember, the Anthonys used non chlorine pool products. IMO, no way could that wet diaper create that much off-the-charts chloroform.

From the U.S. Dept of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Guideline for Chloroform

http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/healthguidelines/chloroform/recognition.html

The following operations may involve chloroform and lead to worker exposures to this substance:

The manufacture and transportation of chloroform (BBM and RBBM)

Used in manufacture of fluorocarbons (especially chlorodifluoromethane) for refrigerants and aerosol propellants; used in fire extinguishers to lower the freezing temperature of carbon tetrachloride; used in manufacture of fluorocarbon resins, tribromomethane, plastics, and thermally stable polymers; used in the manufacture of artificial silk, floor polishes, dyes, and pesticides Used as an extractant solvent in manufacture of rubber, essential oils, sterols and alkaloids, guttapercha, resins, and in the recovery of fat from waste products
Used in chemical analysis and assays; and in photographic processing
Used as a general solvent of lacquers plastics, dyes, fats, greases, gums, oils, adhesives, and waxes, and in the rubber cleaning and dry cleaning industries
Prior use as an anesthetic has been discontinued and uses in human drugs and cosmetics are now limited to use as a process solvent for final products that contain only residual amounts of chloroform
Used as a fumigant for soil, a mildewicide for tobacco seedlings, a grain fumigant for various stored dry grains, and as an insecticide

:bump: Bumping my own post. I wonder if ICA got her chloroform from a dry cleaners or a photography vendor. Manufactured chloroform shows up in testing as having special isotopes. (sp) I think Dr. Vass used the word manufactured for a reason.

surprise, surprise -- There is an above-ground pool filtration system which is called: Salt-Water pool system (Chlorine generator).

So, they are going to have to get above-ground pool experts to explain the specific system the Anthonys used.

I thought that the Anthony's used the Baquacil system. My sister uses the salt-water chlorine generator that your talking about. I think they are different.

I know! We'd all be knocked out if someone peed in the pool! lolol

I believe that Dr. Vass was using manufactured to specify the difference between manufactured chloroform and naturally occurring chloroform. If Casey made chloroform it would still be "manufactured" as opposed to naturally occurring.

Also, another poster mentioned that they didn't believe Casey was intelligent enough to make chloroform by herself. It was stated early on that Casey was an above average student in high school. I think while they were investigating whether she graduated.

Yeah, I haven't seen any tattoo shops with hoods in them either. I really doubt that tattoo artists are working with this stuff in pure solvent form. It's a known carcinogen to both people and animals.

I've worked in various labs over the years, and hoods are required for these types of reagents, and solvents.

See here's my problem with this whole KC used chloroform to subdue, to kill, to put to sleep, and/or to whatever with Caylee:

Everything that has been brought to light concerning KC's personality and behavior tells me she's too LAZY and UNINTELLIGENT and CARELESS to "cook up a batch of true choloroform" and then clean up behind herself leaving no evidence. Where did she make this stuff? There would be traces/evidence of it there too but there is none..

If the levels in the trunk were truly that high it would have to come from already made chloroform.

Elini177, I agree, I can't imagine her putting that kind of effort into it either. So where did it come from?.

I think they were saying in one of the hearings that Casey claims the date was June 2.
I think it is hogwash to be honest. At some point in time you have to make too many excuses about too many things and it starts to look like you have too much to hide.

Were "brominated compounds" ever detected in any of the chemical tests or in any of Dr. Vass's studies?

I don't think so Pink I don't recall that testimony at all. Unless there is another name for the same chemical.

You would think Jose would be making a huge deal out of it, if they were, so I'm going to guess, no.

I just checked with my son-in-law, he's a diesel mechanic for Waste Management, he said they don't use anything there with chloroform.

He said possibly for the sewer trucks but he doubts it, he'll check and get back to us later.
