how about this scenario

1. Plead guilty, :jail: immediately ... for a very long time
2. Plead Not Guilty - go to trial - get found guilty of all charges, maximum sentence applied - go to :jail: for very long time but then...
Both verdict and sentence are appealed....appeal finds in favour of both verdict and sentence - back to jail goes GBC for a long time

that's my personal favourite right now....but you have to keep your mind open to all possibilities in this game

On 16th July Lloyd Rayney's trial begins. He somehow got bail after being charged with the murder of his wife Corryn. Part of the reasoning for bail being given was the accused's need to prepare his defence. I wonder if the 3 amigos have been hired by GBC to put forward a second appeal for bail on the grounds that preparing a case with such limited access to their client (one visit a week) is insufficient access.

His arrest was made 3 years after his wife was murdered (in 2007) and he was released on bail after 2 weeks. This is going to be a very interesting trial - he has opted for a Judge only trial I believe.

Perhaps he's good friends with most of the judges, or thinks he is. Perhaps the man off the street wouldn't be able to relate to the high fallooting barrister?

I haven’t been around as much as I am an accountant and it is “that” time of the year. Also my dear old Nan is in the hospital and I have been visiting her after work. Those of you that have read my story know that my darling Nan took me in when I was an infant after my father murdered my mother and raised me as her own. She is an amazing woman and is a strong as a bull but at her age she is living on borrowed time, she wants to go home so she can have a scotch lol.

Some people here know my hubby is a Detective and the case he is working on has kept him away from home for a lot of hours over the last couple of months. Now things have settled down there he is back home in the evenings and weekends so I need to spend time with him when he is around.

It will be interesting to see what Monday brings with the hearing.

Bayside, I can see why you are so concerned for the kids, and I'm sure you have SO much respect for the Dickies. They are going to do for those girls what your Nan did for you.

true....there is always that possibility and I would like to follow that thought... but my gut feeling is he will proclaim innocence for a loooong time

I also wonder about the three lawyers.......maybe a spot of some "ambulance chasing" going on there (a highly unethical practice of lawyers going knocking on potential clients doors)....just saying

Edited to add.....nup, no matter just what and how much evidence there is against him right now he is sitting in a remand facility arrested for murder and interfereing with a corpse (his wife) ..... awaiting a committal mention. What are his options? (not many, but he has two that i can see)

1. Plead guilty and be done with it. Outcome - Immediately get a change of address for a very long time, no get outta jail free option with this plea; OR
2. Plead Not Guilty - outcome - sit in a remand centre for a year or two...take chances with a trial of 12 jurors and highly regarded defence team up against equally highly regarded prosecution team.....possible outcome - he could be acquitted, all charges dropped, out of jail and he moves on, also the other side, is found guilty at trial.....appeals the finding, wins appeal in his favour..........and wallahh ----out of jail again

I do like #1 & really hope that would be the case for Allison's family's sake.

Would be damn good to think police have some truly damning evidence on him. A couple of thoughts on that...a positive id of him at or near Kholo....evidence from the face time call if they're able to detect what that call was about & it can't be disputed.

What we don't know at this stage is whether there's any more evidence against him. GBC may now know though...so depending on that, if there's some very strong evidence against him & there's no way out of it, he may feel cornered & have no other choice than to plead guilty.

That's what I like to think but his rounding up three lawyers doesn't suggest that will be the case.

I'm sure the accused would always think there's a chance of getting off scot-free on a technicality, so why plead guilty?

Imagine getting off on a technicality in a high profile case. You'd be a social pariah.

Thankyou I look at it as a bump in the road early on followed by a wonderful childhood and happy life with grandparents who filled my life with love, I was very lucky.

Bayside, I can see why you are so concerned for the kids, and I'm sure you have SO much respect for the Dickies. They are going to do for those girls what your Nan did for you.

I think the Dickies are amazing and they will do a wonderful job with the help of Allisons other family raising the girls. I think the girls will be very close and will help each other a lot too.

I bet they never say a bad word to the girls about Gerard either.

That is exactly what is going to happen in NZ right now. The accused in high profile case which just ended got off. I haven't heard of one single person who thinks he is innocent, but sadly at the end of the day it was all circumstantial evidence, it is getting to the stage unless the accused is actually seen on CCTV killing, a good lawyer only has to get the jury to believe there is reasonable doubt.
In this case the accused had NZ's best lawyer ( on legal aid too) and the lwayer was able to throw someone else under the bus in his summing up.
So be very afraid re GBC's chances of conviction.

I've been trying to find out what is happening re the doctors wife killed in her home in Sydney.
It's quite bizarre, there doesn't appear to have been an arrest but absolutely nothing online since a few days after the killing. Is there some sort of news blackout or is someone being protected?

I guess my surprise in how obsessed I could be was in my FIRST forey into websleuthing - the Caylee Anthony case. I even travelled to Sydney to see the play "Tot Mum" (the only play in the world that was based on this crime).

I swore I was never going to get that involved again because I'm convinced that justice was NOT served for that poor little girl. It was devastating, and I was very emotional about it. My kids were amazed!

I think I saw the Caylee Anthony one on Dr Phil. Did she go missing for nearly a month and then the mum sent out texts saying she had been abducted by the nanny?

The latest report I can find is from 27th June from Northern District Times which says the case is still under investigation.
