Hmm - mine is on all the time - except if I go overseas. But another good point. However, the fact that it DID connect to a data connection and then stayed on there for 13 hours, would suggest that data access was turned on when the phone was dumped or hidden.

I'm assuming that Allison's would be turned on, for the infamous "App" to work that GBC was allegedly using (even though he hadn't used it). But fair point. Although I'm not sure why you'd turn data access off unless you have a particularly small data allowance on your phone plan. Mine is 1GB and I never go anywhere near that. Most of the time I'm within WiFi range either at home or at the hospital, so that data doesn't count towards my 3G data allowance.

The other reason, I guess, would be to save battery life - but mine lasts a good couple of days with everything on. I also put it on the charger almost every night by routine, beside the bed.

I also leave mine on but my student son doesn't leave his on after a particularly high data usage bill ( only a young male or female could use that much data) so yes that's possible ( dumped phone left on to run battery down)

I think the "connected to the internet" bit is most likely to be just the automatic checking for email, or something similar. Or location services for something that just happens automatically, and is running in the background - like Google Maps, or the "Find My iPhone" app or similar. There are quite a few apps that just connect to internet data (as opposed to phone calls) and that do it automatically in the background.

Doesn't need someone to trigger the connection in most cases. Of course, somebody using something like the browser, or Google search app, etc etc would also trigger an internet data connection.

My point being that there doesn't NEED to be a theory about somebody using the phone - it can connect all by itself.

But wasn't it connected 'continuously' to the Internet for 13 hours ?

There is some stuff that stays on the SIM card and also contents of SMS I'm not sure if the actual words of the messages are kept anywhere accessible....

Doc, I totally agree with you re avoiding posting anything that may prejudice a fair trial, and certainly GBC is innocent until proven guilty, regardless of what any of us, individually or collectively, may think.

However, speaking only for myself, I have no problem at all in taking a certain delight in knowing someone who consistently betrayed his wife (self-admitted fact) betrayed his mistresses (self-admitted fact), and publicly conducted himself in a most shameful manner throughout this tragedy, may in fact, be suffering a little bit at the moment. Sorry for the long-winded sentence. Just trying to say that there is more than one 'crime' here, in my book. The courts will judge on the criminal counts: I am judging on the moral counts.

Very good points you make about the betrayals - I was only referring, of course, to the criminal charges. There is no question that he appears to have been a total ratbag for quite some time. But as to his guilt on the murder count, we do need to allow for that small but real possibility that he MAY just be able to prove he didn't do it.

I have no argument with your sentiments about the other stuff, though. :moo:

You know it's hard to wish any good on anyone who has been charged with a lovely mother/wife's murder and sometimes its good to vent by making fun of them, it's cathartic to do so and I don't think it causes any harm?
He has caused much harm to his children, his in laws and many other people in the community and deserves to be ridiculed IMO. Even if innocent until proven guilty, he has still caused much harm, by cheating, emotionally abusing his wife, reportedly physically abusing his wife and allegedly murdering his wife.
He's an abuser and alleged murderer, so in my book it's all good.

We have months to wait for Committal, so yeah I hope he had a dried up Xmas Lunch and that Santa would have come down his chimney with a big surprise.

I think he owed a lot of money that people, even families, will never see again too, probably long after it was foreseeable that it could never be repaid. No moral high ground needed, his business dealings alone may have destroyed lives, even if acquitted.

Doc, I thought I would be a bit legalistic here and point out that GBC doesn't have to prove anything. If he is committed for trial, then at the trial the onus is on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He can however challenge the evidence and present his own evidence to cast doubt on the prosecution's evidence.

The legal process is not so much about actual guilt or innocence but the ability of the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Here's hoping they have enough evidence then - though I doubt they would have arrested him so quickly ( as compared to Sica and Romney ) if they didn't have enough evidence

I've been lurking & thinking exactly the same Groundgirl. Anything could have happened to Allison's phone between her going missing till the arrest, there was enough time to discard & then move again or distroy completely. Sure was business as usual...remember? I don't know what Apple can recover from their records but I'm hoping the Police have further evidence they are holding close to their chests and a trump card, if that's possible. Hopefully Allison sent some texts to a friend or loved one telling them of her fears & they can show the texts. In Allisons notes she thanked her parents for their unconditional love so hopefully they know more than we know.

Thank God GBC is safe and sound where he belongs, for now...:jail:

Doc, I just had a thought and thinking outside the square, could the bruising to Allison's chest wall be caused by someone giving her CPR? We know that she didn't have any fractured ribs that can happen with CPR though I don't know how common that is.

Maybe and good suggestion Groundedgirl but I think that would be pretty risky. I think that whoever had her phone would have got rid of it as quickly as they could. That is not to say though that it wasn't moved at a later time.

That is why GBC have such top of the range lawyers to defend him. He will be just fine. If the evidence is not there, he will walk.
