America’s most wanted at its peak in the 80s and 90s. What case do you remember that creeped you out the most?

One case I remember was a man who ordered his friend to chop off his girlfriend’s head with a machete. I think it was even mentioned that the police found the friend and some other neighbors on the second floor of the apartment just staring at the victims headless corpse when they arrived according to some articles.

someone actually uploaded the episode/segment on YouTube I remember don’t know if it’s still up though. Old Americas most wanted episodes are very hard to find and often get taken down when they are uploaded due to copyright.

I found it segment isn’t as graphic Obviously.
But still creepy.

I spent a lot of time at the bowling alley in those days and after seeing the re-creation on tv, I was worried constantly that the perps would shoot up the bowling alley my family frequented. This one for me too! I remember seeing the Unsolved Mysteries episode. I just looked it up again and I didn't realize it's still unsolved.

Another one for me was Lisa Marie Kimmell. My family (including me, I was a teenager) lived in Wyoming at the time. She drove the same type of car as my sister and around the same age. It hit way too close. I'm glad it was finally solved.

Wasn't this the program that got the John List case solved? IASTR that they did a piece on medical serial killer Michael Swango, and at the time, they speculated that he had gone off-grid and committed suicide. Turns out he had forged credentials, and gotten a job in Zimbabwe! He was caught when he tried to re-enter the United States after he fled Zimbabwe, because the authorities there were on to him.

Now that you mention it, I believe I actually did first see it on Unsolved Mysteries. I remember their re-enactment and Robert Stack’s voice. According to Wikipedia AMW first covered it a few years later after UM.

I just read the story of Lisa Marie Kimmel. Wow. That is sad and frightening! What she must have gone through during those 6 days before being killed… Poor girl I am glad justice was eventually served, but way too long.

The Lil’ Miss murder! That one is seared into my brain as well, mostly because of the emphasis on Lisa’s car and custom license plate, and the awful horror of the crime once she was found and Dale Eaton was put away.

I still think he’s involved in unsolved murders in the area, and perhaps even unknown ones— especially considering the lengths he went to in order to disguise his horrendous crime.

I don’t know if it was the creepiest, but I always thought Frank Bender’s bust of fugitive John List was amazing; especially in an area before realistic computer recreations. I love the touch of him picking out the drug store glasses to complete the look, and how absolutely dead–on it turned out to be.

Usually the UFO episodes, but also for some reason the episodes that involved people in cars at night or being seen on roads at night. When I was a kid, that always made me afraid of night-time car rides because I was worried I'd see something scary on the roads... I have no idea why I fixated on that, haha

Unresolved crimes always spooked me too, because it had that element of "a killer is on the loose and who knows where they might be" despite the likelihood being low they were anywhere near suburban Ottawa

I actually watched a rerun on YouTube and realized I recognized one of the killers featured there as the man who took me on a horseback ride excursion... I reached out to the detective but he didn't seem interested. There's little mention of this person anywhere online, aside from on the AMW message board.
