"American Airlines Flight 206 took off from Miami at 3 p.m. local time and was en route to Milan when the jet hit “severe” turbulence. The seatbelt light was on at the time, the airline said.

Capt. Bertrand Lecocq, the pilot, said the rough air was likely from the remnants of the massive storm that just hit the northeastern U.S."

Passengers described chaotic scenes when turbulence hit.

"It rolled on its side. Everything went flying. It was pretty intense," passenger Karen Case told CNN partner CBC in Canada.

Case said the plane dipped two times. "I really thought that was it," he said.

Terrified passengers screamed while others grasped for oxygen masks, Gustavo Canda told CBC. Others passed out.

Just glad they are here to BE terrified.
With turbulence that severe they are lucky the plane wasn't damaged.
