LOS ANGELES – Andrae Crouch, a legendary gospel performer, songwriter and choir director whose work graced songs by Michael Jackson and Madonna and movies such as "The Lion King," has died. He was 72.

I knew Andrae back in the 70s when he leased space in an office bldg I was managing at the time. Wonderful, loving, and fun person, not to mention a supreme talent. So sad to know he is gone...

Crouch has won numerous awards and honors over the years including nine Grammy Awards, four GMA Dove Awards, and ASCAP, Billboard and NAACP Awards. In 2004, he became the only living Gospel artist – and just the third in history – to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
