Angela Carmen Pitseolak Meyer

Angela Meyer, 22, loved to be hugged and loved to talk to people, but struggled with schizophrenia, said her family. She was last seen in Yellowknife on Nov. 27, 2010. The Yellowknife RCMP is investigating the missing persons case, but her family wonders why it took a month for officers to conduct an air search. In 2015, a different officer took over Angela’s case. In January 2018, the family spoke about Angela’s case at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry in Yellowknife, saying the biggest issue in the north is not having enough supports for mental health.

<<A coat believed to be Angela’s was found in the bush but Dean said RCMP refused to test it for DNA to confirm that. He said he offered to pay for a private lab to do the testing but police warned him the results wouldn’t be admissible in court.

Dean said he searched the area where the coat was found many times. As did police and teams of volunteers – once numbering as high as 250 people.

“They believe she’d taken off the jacket and walked away and died of hypothermia. I personally walked that area every day – all winter, all spring, all summer,” he said.>>

<<Angela loved to color her hair and dance. She was named athlete of the year at the 2010 Yellowknife Special Olympics. Her family believes that mental health services in Northwest Territories were unable to provide Angela with the services she desperately needed. She remains missing.

She has Type II diabetes. She was last known to be wearing a hip-length, nylon, Arctic Winter Games Volunteer jacket that was red and black in color, a feathery, white Helly Hanson coat, a black cotton shirt, black rayon yoga pants, black cotton socks, low cut grey boots. Her nails were manicured with a black design.
