Angry mom drop kicks birthday cake at Kroger in Bloomfield Township

I'm glad someone else sees it the way I do. This is not just about having a bad day or spilling cake on the floor. This woman was out-of-control, she messed up the store, and most likely didn't pay for the bakery services of making the cake. You don't get to throw a temper tantrum in public just because things didn't go your way.

"...most likely didn't pay for the bakery services..."

Wow. I respect your opinion and I know you to be caring and a believer in justice but based on your post here I hope you never serve on a jury. Sorry, I'm not being mean, just saying there seems to be a whole lot of assuming going on here.

Do we know that she had already paid for the cake?? It wasn't reported that she did and I can just picture this type of woman to feel that she didn't need to because it didn't meet her specifications. I hope the order was prepaid.
The guy who perpetuated the anti-gay cake hoax against Whole Foods Market hadn't prepaid for his cake, but he had a receipt showing he did pay for it, then returned it.

Does it matter whether she paid or not, this woman's over-reaction is violent and disturbing! There is no 'assuming' in her behaviour, she drop kicked a cake, she has a violent history, she is a disturbed individual. BTW, Not a fan of your ' I'm not being mean' delivery by invalidating another person's opinion in such a backhanded way.

Fair enough. I will accept that this woman deserves to be punished to the utmost of the law and back out of this disussion as gracefully as I can.

It is always difficult to be the one with a differing opinion on any of these forums. I am off to take it easy now so carry on..

At the very least, a special-order cake probably required a deposit. Since she left the store in a huff, I doubt she paid for the cake - which is turning out to be quite expensive, given that the woman will have to hire an attorney to get her out of this sticky mess.

I will never understand people who overreact with a disproportionate amount of anger when things don't go their way. People like that just end up looking like fools, and possibly criminal charges like this case. I feel bad for the people in her life who have to deal with the aftermath. :moo:

Yes,the woman had an inappropriate tantrum in public. We have no idea if this is on going or a one time meltdown exasperated by other personal issues and it is none of our business. She did not harm anyone but herself and I am sure she regretted doing it right after it happened and lessen learned. There are bigger and worse things going on in the world.I think I will let LE and the courts handle it and move on.

I beg to differ- the store was harmed by the financial loss and the cleanup they had to do. Yes there are worse crimes in this world- it won't be a felony, doesn't mean angry outbursts should be tolerated, they lead to bigger violence when the perp realizes they can get away with it. And FYI- she has a history of violence- it is our business!

Agree. This wasn't her first rodeo. If it wasn't a birthday cake that failed to live up to her lofty expectations, something else would have set her off. Some people just feel entitled to express their rage whenever and wherever they feel like it. :moo:

She didn't have a mother like me- I won't tolerate it, I've hauled my daughter out of storytime at the public library, and when she was around 3- we went to visit my husband at work. He works for a major corporation. She had a meltdown. I hauled her so fast into the restroom and threatened her that we weren't leaving until she calmed down and got ahold of herself.

Accused ‘Birthday Cake Kicker’ Charged In 2015 Assault At Ice Cream Shop [VIDEO]

August 18, 2016 10:25 AM

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A Bloomfield Hills woman accused of drop kicking a birthday cake at a Kroger grocery store has surrendered to police in connection with an assault that took place at an ice cream shop last summer.

Tricia Kortes turned herself in to Royal Oak police early Thursday morning and was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery over an incident that happened at Ray’s Ice Cream on July 9, 2015.

Kortes’ attorney, Jerry Gleason, said his client has made some changes since the alleged incident.

“We have been participating in counseling and I don’t believe she’ll be a danger to the public if she’s released on a personal bond,” he said...

Has she learned her lesson? It apparently wasn't her first rodeo of disorderly conduct. Based on her history of behavior, I personally doubt it.

"Kortes has had other brushes with the law. In 2015, she pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge for getting into a physical altercation with a coworker in Troy. In 2003, she was convicted of fourth-degree assault in King County, Wash."
