Police are seeking help identifying a killer in the February 2013 strangulation of a Winston-Salem woman who spent nearly three years in a coma before her late 2016 death

Anita Tuit, who was 41 at the time, was found unresponsive in her apartment at 222 Motor Road after what police termed a “vicious assault.”

"This is one of the ones that at the end of my career I would like to see closed," police seek new leads in unsolved homicide

In February of 2013, then 41-year old Anita Tuit shared an apartment with a roommate at 222-33 Motor Road, police say. According to police, approximately 6:30 p.m. on February 22, 2013, Tuit's roommate left the apartment so that Tuit could entertain a guest. The identity of the guest was unknown to the roommate.

Tuit's roommate returned to the apartment shortly before 9:00 p.m. and discovered Tuit unresponsive in the living room. Emergency Medical Services personnel were sent to the scene, along with officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department. Evidence gathered at the scene and pursuant to Tuit’s medical treatment indicated that, Tuit had been asphyxiated by ligature strangulation, reports say. Detectives with the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division assumed responsibility for the investigation.
