People just posted a new article, sounds like she is remaining in life support only to determine if organs are viable for donation at this point. :( very sad, but not unexpected.

"Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition," the rep says in a statement on behalf of Heche's family. "She is not expected to survive."
"It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she's being kept on life support to determine if any are viable," the rep tells PEOPLE.”

Yeah, I'm not at all surprised. She was breathing toxic air for about an hour.

And here's an explanation about her brain injury:

I was wondering this. In the end she may be able to save other peoples lives. The irony.................

Those plastic 375ml bottles may fit in a cupholder. Smirnoff has plastic bottles with red lids. I usually see those behind the counter/cashier at stores like Walgreens or Rite Aid. Likely to prevent shoplifting as they would be easy to conceal.

Actually, the bottle in the photo before the last crash looks pretty much just like a Smirnoff bottle to me. Even if it is though, it certainly doesn’t mean she was drinking it that morning.

Can hardly imagine, but it seems like cocaine is often laced with Fentanyl. YIKES.

Heche’s rep added that the actress was being kept “on life support” to “determine if her organs are viable”.

It’s odd. I mean I guess I realize that brain injuries might take some time to be evident, but she was sitting up on the stretcher, and flailing about after they started to cart her away.

Someone with some more education than I about this, could you explain how she goes from that to not expected to survive? What, mechanically is happening in her body to cause that?

Wow, this is pretty much a death statement. They spoke in past tense terms about her. “Ann was…” and “She will always be remembered…”

I wondered the exact same. She appeared very flexible in that stretcher moment. Maybe the smoke inhalation hadn’t closed enough in on her yet allowing her body to sit up and flail?

I recently too my first aid course an one of the things covered was that people with head/brain injuries can be quite aggressive or act in unexpected ways.

Is it possible that while on the stretcher, Anne raised herself up and began flailing her arms because she could not breathe? I did not consider that option until we've received news about how seriously injured her lungs are.

The medics had her face covered by a white sheet so they were not using an ambu bag to help force air into her lungs. An ambu bag is a manual resuscitator used by medics to give rescue breaths.

At this time, I suspect medics had her entire body covered by the sheet, not to protect her identity, but because they thought she was dead since she was not breathing. Her body was attempting to go into a coma due to the lack of O2. The human body's natural instinct to live was not allowing her to go gently into that good night.

The autonomic system was failing to allow her severely damaged lung tissue to automatically expand and contract due to the intense smoke inhalation and inhaling hot, perhaps poisonous, gases from burning materials, such as the paint on her car.

With death, she'll pay the ultimate price for her illegal actions from that fateful day.

The autonomic nervous system (ANS), formerly referred to as the vegetative nervous system, is a division of the peripheral nervous system that supplies smooth muscle and glands, and thus influences the function of internal organs.[1] The autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions, such as the heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal.[2] This system is the primary mechanism in control of the fight-or-flight response.

Not sure that she would be suitable for donation for many reasons. Some of them are mentioned by her in the book; while an old problem and not her fault, one, however, could be limiting her suitability for donations, plus, she has these new traumas. But I wish her good luck. Maybe, she will be such a good match that minimal immunosuppression will be needed?
