Honestly, I believe no matter how much we do the destruction is still going to happen.Just a few people are not going to make a difference no matter how much we try.

To clean up the oceans one could start with the coal heating constantly putting mercury into the water through China. Not to mention oil spills and the pipeline that is ruining alaska's ecosystem. But its too much money involved.

Here's more info on the book- it sounds like a book my husband would like.

I read somewhere that when deep sea creatures surface, it is because they are ill and/or dying.

I believe that to be true in many cases. I have to wonder why this happened twice that we know of.

It wasnt an unusual depth I guess when I started researching it.

Demersal to mesopelagic inhabitant of outer continental shelves and slopes; known depth range is 130 to 3 940 ft (40 to 1 200 m); most individuals have been caught off Honshu, Japan, at depths of 200 to 920 ft (60 to 280 m); there is curious record of a 42-in (107-cm) specimen supposedly netted near the mouth of the Murray River, South Australia, but there is some doubt about its capture locality.

It lived for two days, I bet it was in shock. They figure capitalize on it before it dies.
