I recently went to Red Robin and they had tablets on the table to order from and play games and such. We still had a waitress and she was attentive.

Hey, y'all be nice. . We all have our own little quirks and phobias. Mine just happen to be germs. Believe me, if I had a choice, I wouldn't think twice about these things. I can promise you, that if you compare me to my family and friends....I am rarely sick, while they however......

I don't worry about it and I'm rarely sick. I'm going out - what will I touch.......keys, door handles, house, restaurant and car, steering wheel, restaurant beeper, menu, table top and filthy money or a waiters pen. Life's too short for all that worry. Being at war with germs is futile.

Two things I refuse to do- check myself out or order my food from an ipad.
I was in Sam's club, and when I got to the check-out, only 2 lines were open. 6 to 8 in each line, with buggies and flat-trucks full. There was an employee at the podium there at the check-outs (I don't know what her job is) but she told me I could go to the self check out and it would be faster. I told her a pay $45 a year for the privilege of shopping here, and if you don't have anyone to check me out, maybe I'll just go somewhere else. She smirked at me, so I laid the items I had down and told her, No, what would be faster would be if she opened up a line herself and checked some people out. I walked out the door. But, you know what, I wanted that stuff.
I have been back since, but I have learned I can get checked out in the pharmacy.
Too many people in this country need a job, we need more tax-payers, not more people drawing unemployment.
I also hear that Costco is a great place to work and pays their people a good wage. Think I'll try a membership there next.

I don't want to do away with waitstaff completely. Far from it. I just like that some restaurants are offering the option for the socially anxious to use a tablet and reduce social interaction. It's a nicer alternative than being told "well then don't go to restaurants." JMO!

I rarely eat out alone. I usually end up eating in the car if I need to eat out when I'm by myself.

JMO; being a very shy shy child; I had to over come a lot; when I realized that my anti social behavior was just not going to cut it. Fake it until you make it, lol. I know how hard it truly is, so I don't say that lightly. I'm just saying Tech Guru Gadget NUT that I AM; I love technology the net and all the gadgets that come with it BUT;
I've also noticed that the more we strictly use email and texts instead of phone calls the more is lost in translation. Including personal interaction. IOW using some reverse Psychology sometimes does really help...to get you to come out of your shell instead of giving you ways to stay in it. I KNOW I KNOW! IT"S A COMFY PLACE!!!!:tantrum: OMG I KNOW this. But; because of our technology; we are now discussing do we need to teach Cursive? And then there are all the language and english mistakes that I see in the last two Generations that have come about. Some; don't know the difference from To Two and Too. This is all stuff we have to have down in 4th grade. So; while I love technology; I unplug often ON PURPOSE; and go off the grid completely. For me; It's healthy. It's so hard to keep a balance isn't it?

JMO. I was a nurse for 35 years. If I was afraid of germs I would never have been able to work. By now I must have developed a resistance to most of them or I'd be dead. Lol. I was very healthy and am not working because of a very bad accident. But thats just me. I don't do self check outs as it takes me too long with my W/C. Its difficult with a W/C to go into a restaurant and be seated. Believe it or not the wait staff is not so friendly toward W/C people. So I guess I'll be staying home. To each his own though, JMO

Then again I DO LOVE THE SELF SERV check out at any store. Just love them. They are quick and I don't have to wait. Now that I like. Some have trouble with them; but I'm outta there in less than five minutes so I really like that option. I don't see it as antisocial; but I do see how machines are starting to take over more than just jobs, lol.

I'm sorry; wc is for wheel chair yes? And I agree if this is what you mean! I have experienced some of the worst profiling and stares using a wheel chair. I hate it; and only will use it when I absolutely have no choice. It's demeaning on so many levels because it's so LOW.

So what I noticed at the museums this past summer was that I'm directly at child eye level and they were the WORST of the whole population! The Stares, The Trying to Figure out; Hmmmm do her legs actually work?
Things like that. Have you experienced WC bias? I most certainly have so much so that I hate using it. I have a great pusher though. So I'm grateful for that too!

We are too and yes you almost have to be now...good luck trying to even set up a new tv yes? And; things like that. LOL; for my car...it was nothing but VIDEOS from the dealer, in order to learn my vehicle! Now I love that; it IS a good way to teach new settings but thank god we've all kept up or we would be SO LOST!!!! Yes?
I'm sorry that waitstaff isn't friendly to wc users...I just cannot bring myself to go out and use mine that much yet. but the few times I have was very upsetting and it had me in tears? I guess that is normal...a normal reaction when you are still struggling with a diagnosis.

I completely understand using a wheelchair. Several years ago I has foot surgery . Got a bone graft and big screw in it. The practice I used is one of those rush the patient through places where they don't communicate. They told me when I woke up, use crutches. Absolutely no weight bearing for nine weeks. And here I worked in the office at Walmart and I walked all over the store as part of my job. I was a complete klutz with the crutches so I spent nine weeks using a wheel chair. No cast, splint , or anything after two weeks i wore slip on shoes.I gained a real appreciation for those who use them all the time have to deal with.

There is a short story by Issac Asimov but can not remember the title.The story is set in the future(of course) and every aspect of a humans life relies on computers and access to them.There are no prisons so if you commit a crime you are stripped of all computer privlages and no one can help you or they risk themselves.Basically you do not exist.

So sorry, Rob. I am a semi-manager at a Wal-Mart and the truth is that we, too, are going under. Mostly because higher management refuses to pay for workers and I think they have carried it too far to even amend at this point. You can check out at any register in the store.....jewelry, sporting goods, TLE, etc. If an employee smirked at you, that needs to go higher. But our employees are already so overwhelmed that they really can't much even manage a simple question anymore. The job of the person at that podium is to take care of self-check out's that alarm.....usually four to six at a time. I hope her smirk was really an attempt at a smile. And as for people needing a job, we don't hire. Pretty much. Only seasonal temps at this point.

Oh Dear.............don't know in general but I do have a handicapped sister who, when she has to fly, uses her handicapped status to be rolled from one plane to the next but otherwise, never uses the chair. Too LOL! She IS handicapped; just refuses to be most of the time. Interesting thread we have going here. Except.....yea, for the children. And you don't have to be handicapped to see them.
