You are making total sense. I have to say from my perspective that the only way that a conflict could occur with a 10.x address, it had to occur at work. At 10:21 on Friday night at home, the conflict between the laptop and the router could not be a 10.x address no matter where the router was located.

If the router was at cisco with a 10.x.x.x address, and then his vpn connection tried to assign the same address at home, it could cause this as well...right?

Could it come into play here?

I wouldn't think so. That would be a huge stretch to assume that this guy suddenly didn't know how to read the log times from one of the company's own computers. It would also go back to what Wolfpackwoman said; it would have to be a conflict with a 10.x. address.

I will admit VERY limited knowledge of VPN, but what I do know is that you have to first establish an internet connection in order to "tunnel in". That internet connection from his home would assign via dhcp his IP address. He wouldn't have an internal work IP address if he was working from home. Someone with more experience with VPN can feel free to correct me. (I avoided VPN with a passion because it would just be one more layer of networking that I had to manage.)

Hee Hee,, Laa Laa..I am heading out for the night....I tend to look at things simple..and for some reason I think Jurors do too... I really in truly think the evidence as it comes out will give the jurors food for thought..although it has been innondated with menusiae!!...I have to believe that no one wants (W/ Sleuthers) a murderer to go FREE..so given the circumstantial evidence/ history ( and disregard friends suppositions) but give the thought to who last saw the victim(Nancy)..who would actually profit financially or lifestyle needs, or commitements,,No One else was so inclined or threatened as a "PERP"

Then you have the abilities of the suspect Brad,( which wasnt know until wayyyyyy down the road) to alter or do something to obscure??....

Bottomline is Defense has done everything to discredit all witnesses..or disqualify them..as had Prosecution...But the gossip crap0$$a is just that..however may or maynot be considered..Point is it comes down to the jury..Necklace viewed or not viewed is irrelevent..Point is DID NANCY go out jogging that morning?? and WHO would gain from her demise??/

Let all sides bring in their experts..(DEF Expert will NOT sacrifice his credibility)..He needs to see the Router logs and connections to Phone/Computer records..THEN..let the chips fall where they may...NO ONE wants a true murderer to go free?? RIght?

Sorry..long post..Im Off like a Dirty Shirt :seeya:

:bedtime: Salut

Thank you! That's exactly what I was asking.

And to respond to the earlier poster, asking if there were any IP Address conflicts in my logs--I do have one, but it doesn't seem very useful, because it doesn't include the IP address, or the associated mac address!

"The system detected an address conflict for IP address 0.0.0.0 with the system having network hardware address 00-00-00-00-00-00. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result."

So we are thinking they saw this error message and the network hardware address = the 3825 MAC address

If the laptop is connected to the VPN it would have a 10.x.x.x address associated with the VPN as well as an ip address associated with the local network.

Would the conflict occur on both the VPN and the TWC IP addresses, or just one?

Yep, imagine that! Especially the part about them being in the lawyers office!

the ducks were definitely Nancy's..not sure why the Coopers quickly started giving away family assets
and when did lawyers start taking nick knacks for payment?

It was after he was arrested and some of his belongs sent to Canada. She had nothing else to do with the stuff and the lawyers deserved to get paid. BC no longer had a job since he was in jail, so she offered the remainder of his stuff.

Neither. A conflict would only occur on the LAN (local area network). Only the devices and addresses inside the house are in play for a MAC address with an IP address conflict.

Funny you should be mentioning ducks...I just finished watching/listening to CC's testimony. I have some definite feelings about her and her relationship to her son and his wife and her candor or lack of candor during her testimony. Is this off limits?

BTW...Did anyone else find BC's facial expressions and eye expressions "interesting" as Mrs. C was being questioned about the state of his marriage? I was struck by the expression when his counsel asked, "Was Nancy a good wife to BC?"

And...those ducks....Those ducks could have been anywhere before Mrs. C saw them in the box, if she is remembering correctly. She says that she saw the two ducks from the foyer table in a box in the living within 3 weeks of her arrival on July 17th or 18th. Since it has been three years, could the ducks have been seen when she came back in August? or later?

Assumptions that could be made:
1. The ducks had been in the box all the time.
2. The ducks were put in the box right after Nancy's disappearance/death.
3. The ducks were put in the box after Brad visited his office or in August, September, October.
4. Funny that the duck from the frig met up with its buddies from the foyer.

Question: Have the ducks been tested by CPD for blood or ????

Funny that the necklace appeared in a jewelry box on a table in the hall/foyer. Funny that Mrs. C didn't notice if the jewelry box had been on that table since she arrived in July...I believe it was October 28th when BC was arrested....I would have a number of questions to ask Mrs. C...

There is definitely something we are missing from the testimony. We have been discussing Duplicate IP errors but what was said several times was IP Mismatch error which seems to be something different.

What I'm not understanding is how the error information on the laptop is tracing back to the router.
Looking through the possible events on Techweb, I see only two that would log the MAC address of another device. These are TCPIP 4198 and TCPIP 4199. One of these is a duplicate MAC address error and the other is a duplicate TCP/IP address error.

In researching how these are detected, I found that for the case of Duplicate IP, when either TCP/IP starts (or restarts) on a Windows machine or when the IP address is changed for an interface, the windows machine sends an ARP request for it's own IP address. If it gets an ARP response, that means that some other device has that IP address. So, it logs the error using the MAC address from the ARP response.

For the duplicate MAC, I could not find an explicit explanation of how it is detected, but the only way that makes sense is that whenever the Windows machine gets either an ARP request or ARP response, it checks the MAC address from the sending machine against it's own MAC address. If they are the same, the error is logged.

So, for either of these to have occurred and the MAC address to have been that of the 3825, it seems to me that the 3825 would have had to be there.

I am rather new to posting here but I am one of the people who feel BDI! One thing I think should be made more of and I was glad the ADA included this when she cross examined the PI about the route Brad claims he took, and that is Brad has admitted to lying in his deposition. In my mind if one is truly innocent one will tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

:welcome5:

Welcome, and just jump right in and ride with us on this

(roller coaster) that is the WS Forum! Glad to have you!

IIRC, the family of Nancy specified what they wanted from the house. I think art work was amongst the things they requested. I guess they weren't interested in the ducks. What do you think should have been done with the house and contents after Brad's arrest and the house was released from police?

I am doing a lot of herbs this year, and I keep hearing I need to plant marigolds.. have you tried that next to your plants to help? I am running out tomorrow to get some, hope it helps!

Yes, I think marigolds help a bit. I planted them last year, and I didn't see any nibbles on my 'maters or cukes or okra. Most bugs don't like 'em. And they are pretty little plants, so you have nothing to lose! I've been planting today, too, but I have not gotten my little marigolds yet, but I plan to do it soon.

Good! You seem to have knowledge of the way the assets were divided. Who kept the family photos, videos, etc.? Does someone have these for the girls? What happened to the children's toys, furniture, etc.? Were those sent to KR's after the house was put up for sale?

Did anyone think of keeping NC's jewelry for the girls? Did anyone keep any of NC's clothing for the girls--running hats, dress up clothing, etc.? What happened to the SUV NC drove?

At one time, there was a discussion about the necklace being repaired somewhere and some rings being reset. What was the final outcome on these two things?

I noticed that Mrs. C said BC wanted dishes, paintings, his work out stuff, his high school stuff. Did BC want any pictures of his children or Nancy? Did BC recommend that the children receive some of their personal belongings? Did Brad ask to keep the wedding album?

Movers packed and removed possessions from BC's house. Where were those taken?

All I remember is that the Rentz family specified what they wanted from the estate, and that included all the art. I seem to remember that this is what they wanted to keep for the girls.

Does it matter what happened to the rest of the house contents? It sounds like each party took what they wanted, and the remainder was given to attorneys to dispose of as they saw fit.

That was speculation on here because people thought he ripped it off her neck. The necklace never needed to be repaired.

For me, I can safely remove "wanted his freedom" from the list of motives. There is nothing freeing about taking care of 2 young children (2 and 8 year old girls in my case) by yourself. I have that pleasure this weekend since my wife is at a church retreat. Definitely nothing freeing about it.

I really don't see finances as a motive. The life insurance policy was $75,000 - far less than Brad made in a year. There was matrimonial debt, not assets. In divorce, Nancy would become responsible for 50% of that debt. There would be child support, but it wouldn't have been anything that Brad couldn't handle.

I also don't see anything freeing in looking after two preschoolers without a mother. Child support isn't meant to impoverish the non-custodial parent, it's intended to provide for the children in the socio-economic environment that they would enjoy if both parents lived together. Although the first draft may seem excessive, it would have been modified to fit within normal guidelines.
