While Waterman pleaded guilty to charges in federal court and received a lifetime prison sentence, prosecutors in Benton County are still attempting to take Waterman to trial on a state level, seeking the death penalty.
On Jan. 12, a filing in the case shared that Judge Robin Green, who had been presiding over the case since 2022, found that she was never supposed to be assigned to the case.
According to the motion, Green said the case had initially been assigned to Karren, but someone in the clerk's office had taken it upon themselves to make the change.
On Jan. 13, Karren was restored as judge in the Waterman case. More on the judge assignment proceedings can be found
