Authorities are investigating a man's report that the body of a Johnson County woman missing for four years is in Beaver Lake in Benton County.

A news release from the Johnson County sheriff's office says authorities received a tip Friday that the body of Bonnie McFadden was left in the lake. Divers searched an area of the lake Friday but say they found no evidence related to the case.

The then-78-year-old McFadden of Coal Hill was last seen in August 2005 cashing a check at a bank in Clarksville. Her brother later found her driveway gate and cars unlocked and her purse and financial papers missing.

The name of the man who provided the information has not been released. Authorities say they plan to meet with him again and that he is not a suspect in McFadden's disappearance.

Sad... there's not much out there on this. I lived in Clarksville at the time of her disappearance and remember seeing missing posters for her around town. I'd like to find out what happened to her.

I found an obituary for her. There was a memorial service held in 2015. There is nothing else about her. I think I'm going to try to find out more information since I am fairly local now. It's weird that there is just nothing about her since she initially went missing, aside from the tip that led to a search of a Lake. That lake is not what I would call close to the area she went missing from either...

March 3, 2023 - Archived article from CourierNews - Lengthy but well worth a read

<<McFadden, who was worth several million dollars, had spent upwards of $500,000 on a 20-something-year-old man living in a rent house on her property in the months leading to her disappearance, including a $40,000 trip to Hawaii.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Department detective Joshua Heidelberg said there are several theories about her disappearance. One is that she was killed for her money by the young man – who isn’t named in this article because there are no formal charges against him – living on her property. Another is that she simply moved back to Hawaii only to die as an unknown person.>>

<<“From what I understand, she was something of a hermit,” Heidelberg said. “She stayed to herself. She came into a bunch of money, lived her whole life well below her means, and it came to be she was worth several million dollars. She had this rent house with a young man living in it, and they developed a deep relationship. She wound up spending $400,000-500,000 on him in just four months. That’s a vacation to Hawaii, trucks, tractor equipment and trailers. It was extravagant for someone who had lived frugally their entire life.

“She chronicled her time with him in Hawaii. At 76, she mentioned wanting to have a baby with this guy,” Heidelberg said. “Based on her notes, he was talking to other girls in Hawaii, which she was unhappy about, but she said that she had learned her lesson. She seemed to realize it was a mistake.”>>

  • Age 78 years old

Details of Disappearance

McFadden was last seen cashing a check for several thousand dollars at a bank in Clarksville, Arkansas on August 19, 2005. She behaved normally during the transaction. She has never been heard from again.

She and her brother lived on the same street in Coal Hill, Arkansas, and they normally had daily contact. After several days passed without his hearing from her, he became concerned and went to her house to check on her. McFadden's cars were on the property, unlocked. The gate to her driveway was unlocked also and there was no sign of her.

It's uncharacteristic of McFadden to leave her vehicles or driveway gate unlocked, or to be out of touch with her family. Her purse and some financial papers were missing from her residence. She is described as a strong-willed and independent woman who lived quietly and frugally. She managed several rental properties in the Coal Hill area.

Prior to her disappearance, McFadden developed a close friendship with one of her tenants, a man in his twenties. She purchased many gifts for him, including a motorcycle and a backhoe, and paid for them to take a trip to Hawaii together. Her family was concerned about her relationship with the man and tried to discourage it, but McFadden wouldn't listen to them.

McFadden's loved ones believe she met with foul play and they think they know who was responsible for her disappearance, but no charges have been filed and no suspects have been publicly named. Her case remains unsolved.
