I wonder if the brother can take the kids while this is going on.

Wouldn't that be nice. Of course he's in college I believe the semester just started... Well, it's a nice thought.

One other thing - watching the mom, she eerily reminds me of my very mentally ill mother-in-law in her speech patterns, body language, facial expressions and mannerisms. My mother in law neglected and abused her kids (mostly emotional and not purposefully) - all of them, leading to us having to step in and try to help raise the kids.

Years later we now have one living with us because he can't function well and has nowhere to go, my 21 year old brother-in-law, who despite our efforts to help him, is like a former foster kid - going on 16, and needing much more care than he should at that age. That's another heartbreaking topic.

Interesting. Mrs. Stanley struck me as - absent? Checked out. In some way? Just me. Others mileage may vary.

LOL, I was gonna' say, maybe I need some of that stuff!

LOL, my FIL takes all kinds of stuff like MMS and believes in that thing where you have to balance your pH like she talked about in the video. He is 85 and in amazing shape.

Don't think so. He made a post on their FB page that said he is crazy busy with work and school so he can't get all caught up in this.

The mom reminded me of a FLDS polygamous woman.

BBM: I would agree that the home schooling is a fairly large portion of this debacle; however, contrary to popular belief - home schoolers get ZERO -as in none whatsoever -tax break for doing so. I educated my four children at home for twenty-five years, and paid all the the required school taxes the entire time.

No, the school district (read tax base) gets no money for home-schooled kids. They get paid by attendance per child per day. That's why they are arresting parents in various public school districts for taking kids out of school for family trips. Back when I was in school, we were out of town at least one week a year during school. I kept up and always got good grades. Today they threaten you over a 20 minute orthodontist appointment. JMO

I wonder if MMS is the same as the fish aquarium PH adjuster drops OT: My "father" would give himself coffee enemas once a week. He was Mormon so he could not drink it but it was ok going in another way. He got colon cancer and I always wondered if it was due to the coffee enemas. He beat the cancer but dropped dead at age 89. He had not been taking his high blood pressure pills but would drink a vinegar/water concoction. We kids were not allowed to get any vaccinations. My sister almost died of the measles, or maybe it was rubella. I freaked out when I stepped on a nail and was afraid I would get tetanus. I had to soak my foot in Lysol. For a headache, I had to hold a peeled raw potato on my head.

Well there are all kinds of videos and testimonials floating around out there about MMS curing everything from autism to ebola. It must be good stuff! They wouldn't make those videos if they weren't true now would they? ;)

Just watched the video. Dad seemed very focused and likeable. Neighbor - well, I was almost in tears when he was saying how heartbreaking it was to watch them take those kids. I liked him. He sounded very sincere and sweet. The mom seemed sort of confused. Stumbling all over her words. She mentioned they had just learned the Real reason why the kids were taken (abuse allegations) 10 minutes ago. So for 8-10 days they thought it was because of the MMS? So she must have had anhundred things bouncing around in her brain. I heard background talking while dad was interviewing. I wonder if she was on the phone learning the abuse allegations right then? Cause she seemed really out of sorts.

Bleach is essentially chlorine and chlorine is to purify water. In 'Nam we couldn't drink the water without adding chlorine tablets.

From the beginning posted article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ts-over-the-dangerous-miracle-supplement-mms/

Court documents, he said, indicate that the 16-year-old boy reported bringing the MMS bottle to a friend’s house and then coughed for several hours after smelling it. But Stanley suspects that the boy may have inhaled a different chemical used for the aquaponics system, and that he used the incident to try to get out of his parents’ homeschooling program.

From doing some research people do inhale MMS for ailments. The son must have known this and there was a incident at a friends house that was brought to the attention of authorities.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ts-over-the-dangerous-miracle-supplement-mms/

But the Garland County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement this week that it was “absolutely false” that MMS was the sole reason the Stanley children were removed from the home. The sheriff’s office, according to the statement, “responded to possible child abuse and neglect allegations from … concerned citizens that are familiar with, and friends of, the family.”

Responding to a poster earlier, MMS was not the "sole" reason for the removal of the children from the home, but it is part of the investigation.

The older son in the video, pretty much covered the rest of what my thoughts were concerning these actions taken. Parents sometimes have certain beliefs that are not necessarily what is best for the children and can be in fact harmful, even though parents think they are doing what is best for their children.

He is and very intelligent and well spoken. Notice that he is defending LE and DHS quite a bit, does state he thinks there are some things that needed to be looked into, that the allegations were by well-meaning people with genuine concerns, that the Christian, homeschooling community is not being attacked by this, etc.

He said his parents are good people and have acted with the best of intentions but that there are some things they may need to change. He said LE didn't act on their own from nothing but were prompted by allegations. He said that
"some may say it could happen to anyone" (that was his mother who said that), but then he went on to explain, it seems, that there were some valid concerns. Possibly some exaggeration here and there but some truth and some real concerns.

Seems like a very measured, honest person. And I must say that if they raised him, perhaps they aren't too bad. However, I do note that the mother admitted in her statement to changing their lifestyle or parenting techniques. I wonder if they changed for the worse.

Thank you for the recap, Gitana. I watched the parents interview on YouTube. This one, I can't make it work. :gaah: if it gets to you tube will someone post it please?

Well stated, thank you! I couldn't watch the son's video, but this is the impression I got from the parents.

SBM

I haven't watched the video but I don't doubt that's exactly what these parents are gonna be doing... Well, I shouldn't be too judgemental til I watch it. ..
Not. Nice.
I hope it all works out for this family. They do seem well meaning.:blushing:

True Wendy... But meanmj was saying that homeschooling families still have to pay property / school taxes. Same as everyone who uses the public schools. And, btw, those families sending their kids to private schools.. They pay the same school tax too.

So, all the school taxes paid by everyone (either using the school or not) in each district gets schlepped together in a big pot, and the district then doles it out according to attendance and other variables they dream up each year. IMO.

In my state, if the student isn't enrolled in public school, the public school district does not receive the portion of taxes. Instead, it goes into a general fund. I don't know how Arkansas does it but my guess is this issue is about $$$$$ and has nuthin to do with kids being abused.

Yep. My state and federal taxes support public schools for two kids even as only one of my children attends public school. Next year I will have no children attending public schools and yet my tax dollars will continue to support public schools. My private dollars will support the private schools my children attend. Further, people without school age children who pay state and federal tax, are also supporting public schools.

I do get the point that public schools are also getting grants and federal funding based on numbers attending their schools and private or homeschooling removes numbers from that pool of federal daily attendance dollars. But honestly, I find a conspiracy between sheriff and feds for the grant dollars brought about because of at most 7 students, well, difficult to follow.
