Here's how close the EZ Mart was to Jersey's house. This is the EZ Mart where her stepdad (and maybe her mom?) worked.

That is so close together. It would appear that you could jog it across the back way in a matter of minutes. jmo

I haven't looked at either of their FB pages since last night, but I find it strange there is nothing on either one of them about this tradgedy. Not even condolences from friends. :what:

They may have settings that don't allow the public to see their posts or their friends' posts. My fb has extremely strict settings as to who can see what.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I thought mom had pictures of BT on her fb? I only see the relationship picture of the two and date. New header of the sunlight, might be more pictures of Jersey being added. I didn't see some of them before like Jersey with Dad & little sister.

I'm going to watch a funny movie now...

Below is a quote from the Huffington Post article I linked to in post 262 regarding the father's self serving excuse to chain her up. I wanted to source it for reference sake.

Since there is nothing to collaborate his story about her getting into meds and "other things" I am inclined to think that it was a bunch of bull and for whatever readon he did it out of convenience for himself. If there was proof she had gotten into meds (such as trips to the ER, etc) then I might give him the benefit of the doubt. Also, if he chained her out of genuine concern for her wellbeing I doubt that the prison term would have been so long.

Thanks for sticking with my rambling as I work through whether she might have wandered away. I have now resigned myself to believe that the less violent scenarios I proposed are not realistic in this case. I was hoping... le sigh...

I can only speak from personal experience here, but I had a night time sneaker/eater/getter into things. It was not due to her being hungry or neglected. I honestly don't know what her motivation was, but it happened between the ages of 2-10. She was VERY quiet. I can hear one of my kids sniffle from across the house, but I never heard her creeping around and getting onto counters and into cabinets. Just a few things that stand out to me are, Nestle's Quick in the tub.. she was eating it dry, with a spoon. Bologna and raw eggs in her infant sisters crib, wanted to serve her some breakfast. Tide sprinkled all over her room, ala Carpet Fresh. None of these things were found until I woke up in the morning. There was a short time that we put a latch on the outside of her door because she left the house at around 5am and luckily was brought home by a neighbor that was leaving early for work. Much later, at age 10, she took an overdose of OTC diuretics, which were not anywhere she should have been at 3 in the morning. They made her vomit, and I heard that. Got up and got her to the ER. I never chained her to anything, but my fear that she would harm herself or a sibling was VERY real and I was at my wits end at the time we decided to latch her in at night. It wasn't out of convenience, it was for safety. I think maybe her dad/stepmom went way overboard, and I in no way condone the chaining up of a child, but I can see how they may not have known any other way to keep her safe in her room at night.

Anyway... little angel definitely could have been a night time wanderer. My girl wasn't a sleep walker IMO, she was deliberately doing the things she did. I will never know why, but it seemed to be with purpose, not involuntary at all.

Interesting changes! There aren't now and haven't been since this case any pictures of Jersey's dad on DesaRae's facebook pages. I don't know who that guy is with the girls, not BT either. Might be an uncle or ex-boyfriend.

How scary for you. As far as Jersey is concerned I would wonder if she only did that when she was at her fathers. I wonder if she did that at home. Reports indicate she did it because she was hungry. I don't guess we will ever know. Certainly the jury or judge did not believe there was a valid reason to chain her up. So sad any way you look at it. jmo

funeral tuesday..

Where is this info?

In the U.S., sometimes visitation includes viewing the deceased, but sometimes only gathering near the coffin with the family.

NM. I see it on grandma's page.

I'm thinking that this is a crime from within the family. But, if not, I really don't understand why people get fussed at the thought of the parents of a missing child using donations or money raised in the name of that child to survive, pay bills, etc.

If my child went missing, there is no way I could work. Perhaps some are not aware but there are millions of families in our country who live from paycheck to paycheck and who could easily become homeless if they miss just one.

I think it's Canada that has a new law which provides financial support to families of the missing. I am all for that. These poor people (in general, not necessarily here because my hinky meter here is chiming) should be able to focus on getting through the day and finding their child or dealing with a death rather than having to worry at the same time whether they will have food or shelter. :twocents:

Jersey's funeral will be paid for by Crime Victims Reparation, that is one less worry for her family. Some times, at our bank, there has been donations taken for a family that has suffered a tragedy like this. I always give 10 or 20 dollars. Jersey's mom has to be destroyed by this and needs help, it doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.

Just wanted to stop lurking and say thanks for all you guys do. I'm semi-local. An hour away. Go up to NW Arkansas all the time. Our local news seems to be doing a pretty good job with what they have and trying to keep us informed. I am curious if the father had custody of Jersey whenever they were arrested. I know Arkansas doesn't have online court records but would be interested to see all the court documents related to the previous case. Could give us some insight into who had custody before and why? I do not think this was a stranger at all or a sex offender in the neighborhood. Jmo.

There's a link to a news report way back near the beginning somewhere saying that the news station had looked up the divorce records and that DesaRae was given primary custody of Jersey in the divorce. There's no evidence that custody was ever changed.
