ETA I believe the reporter saying it was Bridgeman who requested to attend the funeral was correct.

This article explains it. He was in a cell with a LEO and a trustee. The LEO turned his back to do something and the trustee attacked him right there.

This sums up the term "returning to the scene of the crime"; I cannot believe this guy just hanging around LE while they are investigating and he is the accused!
