Can anyone tell where on the Little Red River the search is? Looking at Skibaboo's map I can see a few possible areas but I can't find a park nearby.

Could it be Riverside Park? Wow, that's far away.

I added it to the Map (little diver icon) That's if it is the right spot, I am going by the photos posted on twitter, the road circles around a meridian next to the river so I put the divers icon at that spot, I think it looks right.

Have divers been in this body of water yet?

Thanks! Yeah, they said the boat landing so I think that's the spot. It makes sense since it's accessible by car - no way did Malik walk that distance.

some thing is very hinky with the difference in stories:

CHERYL MCCOLLUM, DIRECTOR, COLD CASE INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (via telephone): In other words, this is no longer a search and rescue, it`s a criminal investigation. Say in one of the polygraphs, someone showed deception or showed that harm was done to the child. They`re going to stick with that. They`re going to search the home with black lights and dogs. You`re fixing to see a complete shift in this investigation.
GRACE: Grant Carey, I show you heard Cheryl just then. Grant, what do you make of it? It`s a duplex and the neighbors didn`t hear anything. We have a conflicting story. We were told that the stepmother was taking a bath and when she came out of the bath, asked where`s Malik, the little twin sister, the 2-year-old points to the door. What is your understanding, Carey?
CAREY: Well, initially it was said that she was giving the other child a bath. Then it was said that the other child was in the room alone with Malik. When she came out, she asked where did he go? So there`s been a little bit of conflict there
. That`s one of the problems police have been dealing with. They`ve been investigating the criminal aspect of this since the beginning.
GRACE: This is what I know, Grant Carey is I want this baby back home. I remember my children, basically helpless, boy-girl twins at age 2. I want to bring Malik home.

Again which is it ? I know one thing, you dont leave twin two year olds wondering around the house to take a bath!

Pins, needles and lots of questions.

If they find Malik then the timeline goes out the window. Dad and g/f said he went missing at 5:45. They called police at 6:30. During that time relatives were called and (I think, can't be sure) dad and g/f searched the neighborhood. And didn't bio mom show up too?

The only explanation that keeps the timeline intact is a stranger abduction. Sure doesn't look like it here but it's still remotely possible.

What kind of dogs searched dad's truck? I'm guessing search, not cadaver dogs but I don't know if either can alert. Would an interval of time impact results? I wish I understood better.

In the meantime here we wait... :(

Thinking more on the delay to call police while the family and neighbors searched. Could this have allowed someone to sneak off with Malik - his body :( ? You know, under the guise of the person searching the neighborhood. Did any of the family get in a vehicle during the search before calling police, or was the search strictly on foot?

I can see something happening unnoticed in the immediate chaos that a lost child announcement could bring. If a neighbor asked me for help, I would be so fixated on looking that I wouldn't necessarily think twice about what others were doing during the same time frame. I definitely wouldn't be keeping tabs on them and would just assume they were searching too.

No reports of LE executing search warrants, which is surprising. In other cases warrants were issued very early in the search regardless of whether LE suspected the parents or thought a crime happened in the home.

Sorry, I don't trust the accuracy of anything on NG's show. It's been years since I've followed, but her info was always old or wrong.

Yes. Sunset was around 4:59 that day, so chaos plus darkness. A lot can happen under the radar.

FWIW, I think there is a LOT of hold back info in this case. I think answers will come once an arrest has been made.

As for cadaver dogs, I wonder how long scent lasts outdoors. The dogs can pick up cadaver scent, but they can't specify an individual person. Without cadaver scent elsewhere, such as the home or a vehicle I think the scent can belong to anyone. Depending of course on how long outdoor scent lasts.

Here's what I don't get, they said at one point the dad was sleeping in the room with the twins, but once they found him missing they NEVER mention dad again, as if he was never there. Now why is that? I mean they don't say anything such as I told dad and he jumped up and ran out looking for him. If I were telling the story I would include all those details, yet EVERY story lacks details thus far.

Wait - so the story is the g/f was bathing the little girl twin? I thought LE said she and Malik were in the livingroom with the sleeping dad. Was Mr. Goins stating older, possibly incorrect information? The twin couldn't have pointed to the door, nor would either adult ask her where Malik was if she was in the bathtub.

Argh.

Yeah, which izzit??

As of 10 minutes ago, divers and dogs are on standby.

The Little Red River is located to the north of Searcy and is not within normal walking distance from the toddler's house.

ETA: Ack. Yes, dogs are searching.
ETA2: Cadaver dogs. :(

Thanks for the link.

I remember reading a great article by a K-9 Police Investigator who worked with a cadaver dog. There were pictures of the dog alerting on the edge of a pond -- the investigator said that they subsequently put divers in the water, and a human body was found. I was very impressed. I had no idea that a scent dog could trace a cadaver scent in a body of water. But this one did. They had their victim...

This news has put a tightness in my throat -- is that where little Malik will be found? Oh, my.

  • #76
They're still searching. From the photos it looks like the divers are in boats on the water not in, so I guess they haven't spotted anything yet. It's been over four hours since they began searching the river. Between the current and elapsed time they could be at it for awhile. It'll be getting dark soon.

Hey you. Like little Malik Drummond's Mom first said, and his Nana, something doesn't makes sense, when you look back. They thought he'd been abducted early on. Do little ones, barefoot, or not, just vanish like that, no trail, no sound, no sight, and no scent?

Hi borndem! Thanks for the much needed tension-breaker! My hinky meter's an old analog one and the needle keeps bouncing all over the place - been thinking about getting one of them newfangled eelektronik ones...

I think the answer is...neither.
