Family members said Potts is from Texas and served with the Army in Afghanistan. His father lives in the Dardanelle area . He said Potts has no known connections in Franklin County.

[...]

"We found a pair of boots in the woods about a mile from the car," Ball said. "Once the boots were discovered we brought in more tracking dogs, and searched the area. We've come up with nothing other than that pair of boots."

[...]

"We haven't heard from him in 3 months and sometimes he gets where he wants to be left alone, what's concerning is that car's the only thing he has," John said. "He left his wallet, his ID, his bank cards. It was like he wasn't planning on coming back. Where the car is, you gotta drive 3 miles where you need a 4-wheel-drive truck to get there, not a nice car like that."

Crews are planning to resume searching for Potts on Friday.

So Matthew currently lives in Texas and was visiting Arkansas? Is he know to suffer from PTSD?

I haven't seen PTSD mentioned specifically but based on his father's comments it sure seems like a good possibility. :( MOO

How sad. This man is a veteran. It sounds like he had an episode and decided to walk away from his life.

The police might want to get around to checking some of the homeless camps and areas. If Mathew is alive, I would expect him to be living off the grid. No car, no ID, no credit cards. He might have had a psychiatric break because of possibly having PSTD. IMO, JMO

I hope he is somewhere safe & dry.

We have had so much rain statewide lately! Today alone it has rained 3” & hasn’t let up where I am! The weather in Franklin Co seems to be just as bad and the forecast unfortunately doesn’t show it letting up any time soon.

Bump. I too have a bad feeling about this. I hope any pain has ended and a calming peace has taken its place, for him and all his loved ones who are concerned.

Details of Disappearance
Potts was last seen in Ozark, Arkansas on January 16, 2020. He has never been heard from again. On January 19, his car was found abandoned on Fly Gap Road near Morgan Township, Arkansas, in the Ozark Mountains. He has no connection to the area and there was no sign of him at the scene, although searchers did find a pair of boots in the woods about a mile away.

Potts is an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. His family stated he was sometimes out of touch with them for months at a time, but they fear he may be in danger because it's uncharacteristic of him to leave his car. He also left behind his wallet, identification and bank cards. His case remains unsolved.

Please God, no! Let Matt just have up and found a place to be alone, please!

Served our country. Valiant. We don't need another Dignity Memorial. We need our brave men and women here getting the right help!

Here for Matthew. I think law enforcement needs to call in some expert search teams and keep searching those woods.
I feel for his family.
He looks like a nice soul.
