Not sure that map link is accurate?

The blue map linked doesn't match "found by a fisherman in Beaver Lake."

We like the Beaver Lake area, and if you do click to the map, the Havana Tropical Grill is good.

JMHO YMMV (on your drive to Arkansas....)

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) 117UMAR Date of Discovery October 16 1996 Location of Discovery Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas Estimated Date of Death 1995-1996 State of Remains Decomposed (Partial Remains) Cause of Death Homicide by blunt force trauma to the forehead Estimated Age 30-60 years old Race White Sex Male Height 5"9 to5"11 Weight 150 lbs Hair Color Unknown Eye Color Unknown Distinguishing Marks/Features Described as a hard worker or possibly a weightlifter. An abnormal bone formation(myositis) ossificans) occurs on the medical distal portion of the right humerus. Circumstances of Discovery The victim was found by a fisherman in 3 feet of water, floating wrapped in a sleeping bag in Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas. Authorities believe the sleeping bag ripped away from whatever it weighed down and floated to the surface. Because the shoreline near the area where the body was found is steep and wooded, the body may have been brought to the lake either by boat or from another location on the lake. Access to this area is limited, although a small cabin overlooks the site where the body was found.

Awesome to have an ID! Still looking for the murderer.

For decades, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office has pursued multiple leads in this case. Finally, after 26 years, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce, the victim of this 1996 cold case homicide has finally been identified as 31-year-old John Douglas Rollins Jr. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office offers our sincere condolences to the family of John Rollins. Through further investigation, Lieutenant Petray has been able to determine that John Rollins Jr. was last seen by family members in 1995.

While we are thankful to finally be able to give a small degree of closure to John’s family, the homicide investigation into his death continues and remains active to date. If anyone has information regarding this case, please contact Lieutenant Hunter Petray at [email protected] or the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 479-271-1009.

Deep condolences to the family. As with many cases here, that is such a long time not to know what happened to a loved one.

I can see why the family would not recognize the reconstruction (if they even saw it). I mean no criticism to the artist and I know Mr. Rollins was in water, but if I knew him, that reconstruction may actually convince me that wasn’t him. I wonder if they ever consider not releasing a reconstruction if it is unlikely to help, and possibly hurt, the case?
