Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said his office is helping investigate a missing persons case. Sherry Lynn Babcock, 51, of Potwin, Kansas was reported missing on November 26th, but had not been seen at home since November 16th. Friends had contact with her since then and she was in the Searcy, Arkansas area as recently as November 21st.
Her car was abandoned in Ponca, Arkansas the next day and she has not been seen since. The car was unlocked and her purse and other personal valuables were left inside.
Wheeler said investigators are using phone pings, bloodhounds, investigative interviews and other resources to try and determine where Babcock may have gone.
She is described as 5'2", 125 pounds with blue eyes and sandy blonde hair. Photographs are included with this release.
Sheriff Wheeler asks if anyone has seen Sherry Babcock since Friday, November 22nd to notify the Newton County Sheriff's Office at (870) 446-5124 or the Butler County, Kansas Sheriff's Office at (316) 322-4254.

Thanks for this. She posted alot on the 17th of November. It makes me a tad uncomfortable in that it sounds prophetic. I wonder what she was doing in Arkansas? I hope they find her alive. She sounds like a gentle, loving soul.

BBM. My biggest question as well. I thought she may have gone to AR for Thanksgiving but the dates/locations seem to indicate she was on her way home when she went missing. ? MOO

NOV 16 - Last seen at home (Potwin KS)
NOV 21 - Last contact / in Searcy AR area
NOV 22 - Car abandoned in Ponca AR, approx. 3 hrs NW of Searcy
NOV 26 - Reported missing

According to her FB page, she is married. Did hubby report her missing, or was it someone else? Trying to catch up here.

What's really weird is that their all dated Nov. 17th, including a post about SP, who was a victim last year of her step father and mother and took off with some man she met online. It doesn't show a year's difference in the time stamp. What in the world?

That Sheriff seems like he's on the ball and very active on there as well as in the community.

Something fishy is definitely up with this poor woman's disappearance.

Still missing, not a trace of her. No one has heard from her. I don't get a good vibe about her being ok. Sitting on my hands for now.

Kansas Woman Hasn’t Been Seen in 2 Weeks, And Her Car Was Found Abandoned in Arkansas

On November 22nd, Babcock’s car was found abandoned in Ponca, Arkansas (about 140 miles from Searcy). The vehicle was left unlocked with her purse and other personal belongings inside.

Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said deputies have bloodhounds on the job and are trying to track Babcock via her cell phone. They’re also following every lead that turns up.


According to her Facebook page, Babcock has been married to James Babcock since 1993 and is originally from Oklahoma.
