The plea deal would have amended his charges to second-degree murder. Prosecutors said that would have carried a sentence between 10-24 years.
Marana dad faces trial after rejecting plea in child's hot car death
His oldest daughter states she intends to testify against him at his trial.
Scholtes declined the offer, meaning his case will go to trial, where he now faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

He also faces a second count, Class Two Dangerous Crime Against Children, which carries a sentence between 10 to 24 years; the presumptive sentence is 17 years.
If convicted of first-degree murder, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. The judge says both would be "flat-time" sentences, meaning Scholtes would serve these sentences, if convicted, without the possibility of parole or other forms of early release.
Father charged in the hot car death of his daughter rejects plea deal
Personally I feel his decision is a poor one and is right in line with his complete failure to acknowledge how egregious his decision to continue to leave a child in the car was that resulted in his daughter' death. I mean so far things have gone his way right? He acted the victim as his daughter lay being pronounced dead, got his wife to continue to support his trifling behind, pressured his surviving younger daughters to tell authorities daddy didn't mean to it was an accident, got house arrest, where he can sit around all day drinking watching

or playing fortnight. I mean so far, this has all worked out for him (MOO).
He is just stupid enough to think he can beat this case against him. I mean, after all, wifey and those others around me believe my victimhood, why wouldn't the jury?
I think Chris is in for a rude awakening come trial in October.
