Arizona girl, 2, left in car by father on 109-degree day and is found dead #2

The plea deal would have amended his charges to second-degree murder. Prosecutors said that would have carried a sentence between 10-24 years.
Marana dad faces trial after rejecting plea in child's hot car death

His oldest daughter states she intends to testify against him at his trial.

Scholtes declined the offer, meaning his case will go to trial, where he now faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

He also faces a second count, Class Two Dangerous Crime Against Children, which carries a sentence between 10 to 24 years; the presumptive sentence is 17 years.

If convicted of first-degree murder, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. The judge says both would be "flat-time" sentences, meaning Scholtes would serve these sentences, if convicted, without the possibility of parole or other forms of early release.
Father charged in the hot car death of his daughter rejects plea deal

Personally I feel his decision is a poor one and is right in line with his complete failure to acknowledge how egregious his decision to continue to leave a child in the car was that resulted in his daughter' death. I mean so far things have gone his way right? He acted the victim as his daughter lay being pronounced dead, got his wife to continue to support his trifling behind, pressured his surviving younger daughters to tell authorities daddy didn't mean to it was an accident, got house arrest, where he can sit around all day drinking watching 🤬🤬🤬🤬 or playing fortnight. I mean so far, this has all worked out for him (MOO).

He is just stupid enough to think he can beat this case against him. I mean, after all, wifey and those others around me believe my victimhood, why wouldn't the jury?

I think Chris is in for a rude awakening come trial in October.

Yes, but you are describing Erica, his wife. The texts were between the two of them. I wonder if Erica’s mother or MIL knew. It is a very scary behavior.
easy mistake to make, MOO in many ways I feel wife Erika has acted the role of the manchild husband's mother rather than wife. She consistently appears to clean up his messes. Even the fatal ones it seems.

Yes, a total manchild. The wife has to work, care for the other kids and clear his messes. I don't know how to call it; "habitual" is probably the term.

I agree that his decision was a poor one. I think he is banking on a sympathetic juror or two. I don't see it happening. He has not taken any responsibility of his irresponsible parenting. I hope he is found guilty and spends the remainder of his life in prison.

Bravo to the oldest daughter who plans to testify against Chris! Perhaps that played a part in the DA only offering to reduce charges to murder in the second degree.

Hopefully the jury will be permitted to watch both videos- the emts trying to save his child and the arrest video. He blatantly lied to save himself, knowing full well how much time elapsed and I bet he also knew the car wasn’t running but was too drunk and too enthralled with 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and video games.

If he gets off on his charges it sends a message to parents that kids don’t matter. Grr.

I don't think he was drug/alcohol tested at the time of the event. I wonder how much later he was tested, if he had any testing for impairment at all.

He was offered second degree murder with 10-25 years in jail according to this article.

I hope I am wrong, but I worry that just one juror could vote “not guilty” because, although they may believe he is guilty, there is a part of them that is somehow still sympathetic to him and feel that the sentence is extreme because they feel he is “suffering” the loss of his daughter.

With the plea deal no longer an option, Scholtes’ trial is scheduled to begin in October. He also faces a second count, Class Two Dangerous Crime Against Children, which carries a sentence between 10 to 24 years; the presumptive sentence is 17 years.

what in the actual 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is wrong with this judge???

“Defendant, CHRISTOPHER SCHOLTES, through counsel, hereby respectfully requests the court’s permission to travel to Maui, Hawaii from May 1, 2025, through May 9, 2025. Defendant, (that’s Scholtes) his wife and their two daughters will be traveling to Hawaii for a family vacation…”

As for the Maui trip, later last month a judge ruled among other details:

“The travel requested is approved.
Marana father charged with hot car death of daughter allowed Hawaii trip

I am literally FLOORED.

A 'family' holiday? How tasteless.

Exactly. He is living and going on vacation with witnesses to his crime. That is about as dysfunctional as it can get. Including the oldest daughter who plans to testify against her father at trial.

Does the family even mention Parker? Are they allowed to?

It is beyond ridiculous that a man charged with first degree murder, and class two, dangerous crime against children, can go on vacation to Hawaii.

I'm speechless.

Is there no penalty for this guy at all?
My hope is the jury will see what the judge and certain others won’t and will do what it takes to let this man know his actions have consequences and because of that he is no longer allowed to live among the rest of us to do as he pleases.

ETA MOO

A Vacation for Scholtes?

@mickey2942 Thanks for your post.

Hawaii? Agreeing w you, given the charges against him, absolutely
not appropriate.

How about a stay at the GrayBar Hotel in Pima County,* instead?

No ocean views but the weather is lovely this time of year.
I have not checked w Concierge Scott Lowing,
I believe this establishment offers room service.

Details of other amenities below.

What if he decides to do something to the rest of the family. He must be feeling untouchable and invincible so why not.
Disgraceful

Geez how inappropriate and sleazy. Replacing forever any judgment in the childrens' heads of the sicko failure Mr. Mom.

Seriously. That eldest daughter is in danger. MOO. She is planning on testifying against the murderer of her little sister, and is going on vacation with him to Hawaii.

It is mind boggling.
