Forget the K-9 unit! Arkansas police department hires an adorable kitty 'pawfficer' to join its team - and its now asking local residents to help choose the perfect name for the cat

Fort Smith officers decided to adopt the kitten as a way to better connect with the residents of their city, Fox 35 reports.

'He will attend community and special events and generally be an online presence that will allow us to take a more informal approach to subjects that affect our community,' the department told the news station.

'The entire project is designed to make the department more approachable and convey the lighter side of the department and what it means to be a police officer.'
