Armchair Psych Profile and JH's Background

Dr. Frederick Wertham, who applied the term in criminal psychiatry, explained catathymic behavior as occurring when a person acquires an idea that he believes he must carry through to a violent act. The person develops a plan and feels a "tremendous urge" to put that plan into action, imbuing the violence with symbolic meaning. His thinking acquires a delusional quality, marked by rigidity and poor logical coherence.

the story of 25 year old student Marc Lépine who committed
mass murder at his school in 1989 seems to have
some eerie similarities, insightful stuff.
different delusion, similar outcome.

IMO unless you are completely psychotic and out of touch with reality you have a choice. Every criminal act I ever committed was a choice, though I easily blamed them on my mental illness back then. Mental illness does not excuse bad acts.. it just doesn't (period)

I love you, I love you, I love you...OLG
say it like it is :woohoo:

Really JMO, I don't care if he gets the DP anyways. I just don't like the idea that someone may be smart enough to fake MI in their commission of mass murder. On the other hand, if JH was actually in therapy and his symptoms to harm people disregarded by his professional doctor, it's a whole different story.

What if he is not faking it?
He is still not coming out to see the day of light.
But can you imagine being in his skin IF he is not faking it?

As for his therapist assuming there was one.
MI people try to pretend for as long as they can that they are just fine.
MI people are not always forthcoming - so therapist may not have known the extent of the MI
AND MI people often begin to show signs of MI in their 20's and once it starts to show it also is spiraling and unless caught and medicated they can do many strange things.
SMALL percentage is Evil…………..This one was.

My eyes go double if I try to read long paragraphs, but I did read it. Thanks. It's more similar to the JH case. Sounds like they still weren't sure whether to call it a delusional personality disorder or MI which legally seems to matter a great deal. What do you make of all this?

Not zv, but to me, I can say, you cannot diagnose a dead person. For all we know, this is the excuse that was made for others to accept his actions.

Let's go with the assumption:

Sounds like the guy disliked women, as was part of his upbringing. He was at the age where frustrations with that sat in, probably didn't get along with young women in his age group via his opinions. Never took the chance to learn to override the dogma. Blew up in pent up frustration and anger, not just about women (really girls), but about his inability to think it through. Raging testosterone around the mid twenties helped. Who knows what else he was taught, or what else he thought. For all we know he was gay and could not deal with it, that would be normal if he was taught that women were nothing, he may have also been taught being gay is wrong. He took it out on the "bad source" - being women.. He was dead, we will never know.

Not comparable unless we find out current defendant wanted to harm all women and was raised to think women are objects.

Sorry for your hardships ((((( big Hug )))))
HE will never get off, or see the light of day.
But in my opinion he is severely MI and functional. Yes he knew what he was doing, MI does not mean you have no clue what you are doing.
Most MI people struggle much, Many lead very healthy and successful lives when medicated.
There also exists an EVIL group within MI group, and we cannot deny that.

I think he will not get the DP because of it, but will get LWOP.
Furthermore it means to me that being able to walk into a store and buying ammunition should not be.
the laws should be edited to protect us from evil.

Blessings for your daughter.:beats:

Roxye :blowkiss: A very loving member pointed out that I misread your post.
and that it is not your daughter but you who suffers from bipolar. :(

forgive me for my error.
Sending you LOVE and HUGS, Blessings and great days ahead.

Her specialty is listed as physical medicine and rehabilitation, no mention of psychiatry. Don't know if it is a different doc or if the defense is blowing smoke. imo

That is just one of her specialty

based on the fact Lépine was still recently doing well in school
i would go with personality disorder.
as far as JH and "Catathymia", it does seem like he realized
his lifelong relationship with scientific education was
deteriorating & that would be a trigger to spawn delusions.

Due to patient doctor confidentiality, she can not report him unless he pretty much tells he was going to kill people. Even now his defense team is complaining his confidentiality wasn't protected.

songline, I really do understand where you're coming from. I value your opinions and am glad you're here. For me, it's too vast a subject to just lump everybody into the MI category. There's also similar behavior and symptoms from people with personality disorders, and they can be just as hidden and manipulative. Their lives also spiral out of control sometimes to the point of danger and unrealistic thinking. One thing I think we totally agree on is there should be good mental help available for everyone with or without money. There's a growing number of homeless and senior citizens suffering from MI issues.

To bring this back on topic, JH might have been too cunning for his own good hiding even a hint of what was going on his mind. Yes, usually, a doctor would prescribe medication if they had indication this man was ready to snap any minute and kill a bunch of people.

I found her listed as an instructor for the University (Department of Psychiatry). So she was teaching too, and that's how he could have met her. Although his lawyers claim he was actually treated by her.

Why are his lawyers leaking info???!!!! True or not true, I know why, I want to know what gives them the cahonas (sp?).

I think it's obvious that they only defense that is really available to him is insanity. That was clear from the start. With them claiming he was treated by a shrink appears to be a first step toward that defense.

Yaiks...If conspiracy theories are allowed here, am sure it will be discussed that these students could be "experiments" on their research ...and let them go when they are done :( --- Ooopss... sorry cant help it.... next topic!..

Since there is no basis for such conspiracy theories I don't think they should be allowed.

That makes it sound like seeing a psychiatrist is a mandatory part of the graduate program. Otherwise, why so many students?

People's response :
http://www.courts.state.co.us/userfiles/file/Court_Probation/18th_Judicial_District/18th_Courts/12CR1522/2012-07-27%2012CR1522%20People's%20response%20to%20D11.pdf

Shhhh dont tell the judge these are all listed in the state court website lol...:truce::truce::moo:

Okay, I'm confused. I saw a report linked here stating that the notebook contained details about how exactly the killer would massacre a bunch of people, with drawings, etc. But the state's response to the motion indicates that they have not yet opened the "box" and were waiting for an "in camera" review, which means in the judge's chambers, with the judge present. Which is it?:
Other stories have stated that the police are currently examining the content of the box - again untrue as the contents were secured and not examined, and held for potential in camera review.

I also noticed the high number of students, and it is likely correct that grad students in some programs (psychology, for example) have to see therapists themselves. A psychotherapist I knew had to as part of the program.

I think I believe the officer of the court more than I believe nameless "sources" in press accounts.

im a member of a "conspiracy site" and the CTs are flying about this sort of stuff....it was discussed very early on in this horrible case.....the only thing i havent read yet is that aliens made him do it. lol
