A developing homicide investigation is underway after a missing woman’s husband was seen on video dragging a large wrapped-up object away from their home just a day before the woman’s body was found dumped in similar state.

On Aug. 12, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to an apartment complex on the 500 block of Lancaster Boulevard in Lancaster to take a missing person report following the disappearance of 33-year-old Sheylla Cabrera.

But that investigation took a turn the following day after detectives viewed surveillance footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera that appeared to show Cabrera’s husband dragging a large item wrapped in some type of material away from their apartment.

According to Sheylla Cabrera’s mother, her daughter had reported her husband for domestic violence in Peru and told her mom the last time they spoke she was going to file a report in California, per KABC in Los Angeles. It is unclear how long they had been in the U.S.

Jossimar Cabrera reportedly changed his story about what happened to his wife several times – first saying she was taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), then that she went off with another man, and finally that she had an accident.​

On Saturday, the children were recovered unharmed in Peru after they entered the country with their father, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations. The whereabouts of Jossimar Cabrera, however, remain unknown.​

On Saturday, the children were found in Peru, where they were taken by their Peruvian-national father, who apparently fled the US before his wife’s body was discovered, FoxLA reported.

LA sheriff’s officials stated they are working with Peruvian law enforcement to extradite Cabrera, who is expected to face murder charges, according to KTLA.

A cause of death for Sheylla Cabrera has yet to be announced.

The camera evidence of him dragging what can only be her bagged dead body through their apt. bldg. out to the street is horrible and unforgettably haunting. It's always the children that pay the most for their parent's terrible decisions. My prayers go out to them and Sheylla's mother.

Ricardo Santiago, a spokesperson for the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to KTLA on Thursday that Jossimar Cabrera has been charged with one count of murder and that a felony complaint for an extradition arrest warrant was also filed.

Peruvian authorities are reportedly cooperating with authorities in L.A. County and monitoring Jossimar Cabrera.

It seems, though, that they didn't waste any time returning the children to the mother's family in the U.S. It was reported that the mother was a Peruvian citizen, so I was surprised that the children were sent to live with the mother's family in the U.S. I don't think the children were born in the U.S., IIRC.

MOO, Sheylla's mother lives in Peru according how it sounds in news reports. Sounds like she talked to her mother long distance or JMO. I think the children will probably stay with her in Peru.

A memorial was held for Sheylla Cabrera on Tuesday, with friends gathering at her apartment. Her children are said to be staying with their grandmother in Peru.

Below is an English translation of the Peruvian Consular office's Twitter post regarding the three children. For some reason, I interpreted the fact that the children were "repatriated" when they arrived in Peru from Mexico City to mean that they were sent back to the U.S (i.e. repatriated to the U.S.). Since they are citizens of Peru and not the U.S., they were repatriated to Peru after having been in the U.S. I got that mixed up. So I get it now, they are back in Peru and repatriated and staying with their grandmother/family in Peru.

Also reported that the husband flew from Mexico City to Peru with the children. I wonder how he got to Mexico City, did he drive there from their home in Southern California? And there was no problem with him at the Mexican border as a Peruvian citizen with three children? Maybe there was no missing alert on the children at that point.
