Binner, 26 of Brampton, Ont., is accused in a December 2021 frying pan attack of Elnaz Hajtamiri in the underground parking garage of her Richmond Hill home.

Lilo has been convicted of orchestrating the first 'frying pan' attack on Elnaz.
It seems that the mistrial of Binner was related to his decision to accept a deal and testify against Lilo.
The trial for the murder of Elnaz appears set to begin right away. I guess the witnesses will be all different, and the case perhaps not as easy to prove, so they've split it into two trials.
Note the article states "The court heard Lilo was obsessed with Hajtamiri and wouldn’t leave her alone".
So not, IMO
- a sinister plot by the government of Iran
- the result of her knowing too much about Lilo's criminal enterprises
IMO, just a man who believed he owned a beautiful woman, and if he couldn't have her, would stop at nothing to kill her. Isn't 'love' grand?

I think LE've been dragging their feet hoping to either recover her remains or do more deals in exchange for testimony.

That is the frying pan case for which Lilo has already been convicted. The guys who failed in the frying pan attack were replaced by a whole new set of people for the abduction in Wasaga Beach.
