OH - Spencer and Monique Tepe found shot to death at home 2 children unharmed, Columbus, 30 December 2025 *ex-husband arrested*

I can understand the owner of the dental practice calling 911, but why did 2 friends of ST's also show up at the scene? I think out of the 3 males, one was a co-worker's husband and the other two were his friends (or maybe one was a neighbor?) Did the dental practice call the friend as well after they couldn't reach the Tepes? Or did the friend receive a tip (anonymous or otherwise) that told him the Tepes were in grave danger and/or dead?
Maybe they called emergency contacts/device location was shared with one of them, so they were extra worried…?

The coworker and her husband may be friends of the couple as well. Once she realized we can't contact EITHER of them, something is very wrong.

I haven't followed closely but am seeing posts about regular parties the couple had. Were they just really social or were these parties something else ( swinging, drugs, etc.)? Not passing judgement just wondering.
Personally I have no idea why some posters are doubling down on "regular parties" held at the house. I haven't seen anything that points to this in MSM.
Like @december2019 just said we don't even know if the April 911 call was made from the home.

The Columbus Dispatch newspaper had two separate articles in this mornings newspaper.

The first article mentioned that a Columbus police officer went to the wrong address on the first well being check request visit. And there were no explanation as to how the blunder concerning the wrong address transpired.

The second article mentioned that the visitation at the funeral home for the murder victims would be open to the public. But the funeral home warned that the news media and those seeking to publicize the murders would not be welcome at the funeral home.
LE will be watching this for sure....not uncommon for the murderer to be there.

What that call made from a party though or from a solitary houseguest?
i had heard it was from the house but could be wrong for sure.

Somebody wanted them dead before the new year anyway that's for sure
Or were the holidays an easier time to arrange the crime due to the killer's schedules, time off, etc. Or were events unfolding and the culmination just happened to be during the holidays? Or as you say, a goal to resolve the issue by the end of the year.

Another point that might be minor but just to mention and perhaps consider. New Year's Eve in Columbus was a very big deal this year. The beloved Buckeyes were playing in the Cotton Bowl that night. So two major events on the 31st. Many parties and lots of excitement. Many people had made plans for that night. Even if staying home was the plan. People were talking about whether they were going out or staying home.

So it would have been more difficult to mysteriously disappear from family and friends that evening. It would be quite noticeable and an excuse would be much harder to come up with. So if the goal was to take care of something before the New Year, the last day it could be done was the 30th.

People may think the football angle in terms of timing may be a bit odd. But the joke in Columbus is that the official religion is football and it is not really a joke. It's true. :(

I’m a little confused why people keep bringing up the 911 call from April. The police dept confirmed it was not Monique nor did it come from the house, as did her brother in law, and many other people that say they knew Monique and that it didn’t sound anything like her.
Because the 911 call suggests a possible motive. The Tepes by all accounts were kind and helpful. Did they get in the middle of a domestic abuse situation by trying to help?

The interesting part is after the visitation at the funeral home, the celebration of life gathering is at an Italian restaurant in Downtown Columbus.

I suspect that this celebration of life gathering will be private as this Italian restaurant isn't open to the public on Sundays.

That's what struck me and made me feel like it had to be someone somewhat familiar to them. Someone that's been in the house.

They were extremely brazen and confident, breaking in in the middle of the night, not worrying about being stopped, caught by cameras or floodlights, S or M waking up or fighting back, the dog barking, finding their way around the home etc. They truly didn't seem to have a care in the world. It's so senseless and unthinkable.

The room thing is an interesting question - he could've immediately flicked on the light and caught them unaware, but again, that's another level of confidence and potential familiarity with the home. Breaking into someone's house, making your way up to their room all while assuming no one has waken up, opening their door and feeling around for the light switch etc. All an insane level of brazenness.

It seems like S and M were very generous and kind and hosted a lot of people at their home over the years so it could've genuinely been anyone vaguely familiar with them and their home. :(
This is all so similar to the Kohberger situation. A fantasy oriented psychosexual killer would have stalked the house for months on end. A person like this would know everything about Monique , her life, her routine, etc as if they were best friends, meanwhile, she would have not known he existed.

Many times, these people will find some way to surveil the house electronically or in some other fashion, and would use publicly listed info on social media, zillow, etc. to gather intel.

While this scenario is unlikely and these cases are rare, the longer it goes on the more this become a distinct possibility. Let’s remember, Kohberger committed his crime on Nov 15 and was not arrested or named until Dec 31.

I don't think the motive was robbery,

But to understand a robbery motive, I think we need to leave Columbus as a whole far behind and dial down deep into that particular neighborhood.

Criminals tend to hunt in areas that they are familiar with. The area where the Tepes lived is blended. Some parts are gentrifying. Other parts, however, retain the olde school higher crime tradition.

A local stated that the Tempe's house and adjacent homes are on the frontier of the gentrification. As a result, they stand out. A robbery motive could then be a blend of:

- We know the area, in fact, we live near by. Those houses in particular stand out as targets for consideration. We don't know what jobs the others owners have, but a doctor lives in this one. We believe that doctors are especially wealthy....
So yes some crimes are opportunistic. The opportunity presents itself and they go for it. And don't do their homework or think it through. A young dental professional may not have much cash, because he bought new house, wife doesn't work, just switched jobs, etc. Also no expensive jewelry, no drugs worth a lot of money, etc. But yes the robbers just go with vague ideas and false perceptions.

I think that’s totally plausible if the call came from their house, but LE specifically said it didn’t. I was an EMT for many years before I went to PA school, and I can’t even tell you how many times we were sent to vague addresses or locations within feet of the correct address, yet not the exact location of our caller. Location tracking isn’t accurate and as it says in the article, can be anywhere within about 100ft and really varies based on the type of phone and type of service. I think it’s unnecessarily holding up a lot of people from forming their opinions and confusing them when it’s not even true. The BIL has maybe been too outspoken about things he doesn’t know anything about. He’s now suggested that they were throwing parties and passing drugs around their house as of April but I don’t think that’s the truth or the impression he intended to give at all.

Wow, that’s amazing that someone found that! It seems to be the correct persone right? I think it’s pretty clear this was targeted and calculated, and if they are such stand up people as their community has urged- I can only think of someone from their past as being capable or having motives to harm them.

OMG is this what I think it is? He hired the dude in the video or was it him?

So was the entry on their divorce filing back in September 2025 a reason for murder? Everyone poo-pooed that and said it was an administrative error. But I didn’t think so.

maybe! It says “murder” as the offense, would it read something else if he had hired someone to actually commit the crime? Could it have actually been him in the video?
