The time frame is not unusual for mailing something across the country, HastinsChi. I would imagine he mailed it the cheapest rate. What we SHOULD be complaining about is the fact that a 12 day old body part made it all the way across the country without anyone smelling anything and reporting it BEFORE it made it to two schools with young children attending. Are you seriously going to tell me the guy who delivered the packages didn't smell ANYTHING?

Your postal service is dreadful...

My take on the Paris trick and 2 1/2 day "hookup": The only hookups that I have heard about that last over 24 hours include a PNP (party and play) element to them. For those unfamiliar with the term PNP, it is a sexual encounter which includes the use of drugs (crystal meth, cocaine, heroin or MDMA) which fuel and/or enhance the experience. People who PNP scare me.

That being said, given the symptoms of vomiting and crying that Magnotta demonstrated on the flight to Paris (per the blog of the gentleman sitting next to him on the flight), I believe Magnotta might have been experiencing withdrawal from heroin. If this is the case, upon his arrival in Paris he would be desperate for a "fix" of heroin or another drug which would tame his withdrawal symptoms. If that is the case and he met someone who could help him get that "fix", that would explain the 2 1/2 day hookup to me.

I just don't think he's a drug addict. I am sure if he were an addict, he would definitely get a fix before traveling to another country. Also, if he were an opiate addict, I think he would have a lot LESS accounts. Trust me, opiate addicts and computers don't mix well ;-) They will fall asleep while typing a lot. The way he spoke about "liquid morphine" made me think he was an amateur in the drug world. He said he heard that liquid morphine was the best drug to knock someone out or something like it.. Liquid morphine is kinda a weird thing to say. Morphine in ampules at hospitals are in liquid form ._., it's a weird distinction at least to me..

I think he was just scared. He definitely has a mental disorder. Possibly bipolar disorder which people were mentioning that he would have activity "bursts" some days.. Usually at the first of the month or the middle.. Bipolar people have severe mood swings, which it was reported that he had mood swings in an article. It was a quote from someone who knew him in real life.

""There are rumors that there are two more video. One of him with his aunt Andrea Yourkin Loschiavo who died in 2010 mysteriously of pills being forced down her throat ( or drugged). Someone said she was laying on a pink sofa dead while Luka was performing oral sex on her????? Did he kill her because she found out about his crimes? And apparently another video where he kills a homeless man? I cant believe all this?"

This is from this website. http://www.special-interests.net/forum/index.php?topic=193.270

I tried googling the aunts name but didn't come up with much yet...has anyone found any definitive evidence to suggest the above statement holds any water?

I wish I could get on that site to check who made the post. I am not sure where they got that information.. It just seems weird that this person would know that much about Luka. It almost seems like just gossip he or someone else made up. I'm pretty certain it wasn't Luka himself, although it could be. I just don't think Luka would be trying to put even more heat on himself right as he got to France ._.

I posted about this yesterday at around noon (it's pretty much the same quote from the same newspaper) and I noticed some discussion about what is meant by Raw video:

To me, Raw video means the uncut version. That's the term we usually use here on WS to mean uncut video and most news media outlets use this term too. I'm not 100% sure if the investigator means that term in the same way.

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...-helped-montreal-police-identify-suspect?bn=1

"Raw video" seems to be a term media people throw around when even they don't know what they're saying. For instance, the surveillance camera footage of LM getting nabbed at the Internet cafe is touted as "raw video" on news websites, but it's under a minute, yet you can clearly see from the time stamp displayed at the top, it spans almost 2 hours. Besides, most of these web videos are Flash format, not what was uploaded.

In digital still photography, RAW image format is the most detailed image that comes right off the sensor, equivalent to a negative in film photography, which can be saved off high quality cameras, but is converted to a compressed form, like .jpg, on most other cameras before it's saved.

There are dozens of different digital video formats, which may contain some original information, certainly the date, but that's lost in transcoding when editing. Unless LE has the original video on the original computer, or better yet, the camera memory card, there may not be much useful metadata available, not even the original date.

First time poster, but I've read all the posts here except for the past few pages on this thread.

Just wanted to posit a thought here.

What if the foot just found in Montreal - the THIRD foot - is Lin's? The one that was found in a neighborhood and not sent by mail?

And this was sent by a potential cohort, who was waiting for Luka to get caught, to posit the appropriate doubt in people's minds as to who done it? Because obviously Luka couldn't have mailed this foot if it were out in the open, hence the different method of delivery.

It would explain Luka's cavalier attitude.

It would also explain other posters beliefs that there might have been two victims on the video (I did NOT watch) from victim facial differences in the beginning to later shots.

It could also explain how someone could get away with so much on his own?

Just my two cents.

Your postal service is dreadful...

I don't know when the last time was that you sent a package that distance, but i used to do some Ebaying, and whether shipped from Canada, or the U.S, 2 weeks is about average for a package shipped surface mail (cheapest manner).

  • #1,267
If these packages were sent by Magnotta over 12 days ago, I would suggest that all Canadians express their outrage at the awful idea of timely deliver that the Canadian Postal Service seems to have. You realize that Magnotta could have gotten the package from Montreal to Vancouver faster if he had walked it there.

It took 2 weeks for a birthday letter to arrive from my Mom in Montreal to Toronto. Meanwhile my BFF in Amsterdam sent me a package and it arrived in 3 days.
Before email and they had us held hostage, Canada Post would go on strike every year at Christmas. They get paid better than RN's do in Quebec so ITA with every word you're saying!!

  • #1,268
Has it been established where these packages were mailed from? Were they all mailed from different postal outlets? I only ask because I'd read LE had some footage of LRM from a postal outlet - you'd think other Canada Post outlets in Montreal would've been reviewing their security footage as well to determine if other packages had been mailed...

He may have mailed from different outlets but they would have ended up in the same sorting facility before being loaded on to the truck for the next destination/facility. It would have taken very little time to bring trained scent dogs in run through the packages in the facilities. I am appalled that Canada Post was so incompetent...........

Here, I agree. They KNEW it was likely the other body parts were in the mail somewhere.

Welcome!! I worry we may have a copycat looking for the same notoriety that LM is. :banghead:

I wanted to bring everyone's attention to something important mentioned in yesterday's Xtra! article "Portrait of an accused murderer" (http://www.xtra.ca/public/National/Portrait_of_an_accused_murderer-12097.aspx )

Journalist Justin Ling interviewed "Dave", a friend of Magnotta’s from 2002, who shared:

Magnotta was a serious “homebody,” Dave says, and he rarely wanted to go out. The one time the two went to a bar together, Magnotta insisted it be late at night. “He didn’t want to be seen.”

This morning that quote popped in my mind and I had an "ah-ha moment" as, in my opinion, that is the most telling and insightful statement I've read about Magnotta and helps me understand so much about him.

Before I share my take, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what was an "ah-ha moment" for me.

The "foot" found in Montreal this morning was a plastic fake.

Karn : If you ran for Prime Minister and your platform solely consisted of reforming the postal service and renaming the Loonie (because people make fun of it), I'd imagine you'd be a serious contender.

I've found what appears to be the victim's credit card (front & back) scanned and uploaded to the internet. The card is signed. It could easily be used. There are also some ID cards. There are no other pictures.

Why would anyone upload such a thing to the web for all to see? Perhaps LM was funding himself in this way?

I have the link to the pictures in question but I don't want to post it because of the risk of fraud. On the other hand, they are freely available if one searches correctly.

Anyone interested in seeing them?

It was a France-based publication, I hope they know how to speak French.

The post I was responding to didn't specify which media. I know the English media in Canada is messing up with the translations. Are you reading this article in French or a translation of it? :)

Wow.. Yeah, clearly for research purposes only. I would like to check the site it was uploaded on. Possibility of so much stuff being uploaded on the site that the images were uploaded.. That's if that site can upload video.
