On March 28, 2003 in Berrien County, MI, a road commission crew came across a body in a field near Interstate 94 below Britain Ave. This body turned out to be that of Ashley Clark, 18, of Benton Harbor. Ashley had left her home on December 2nd, 2002 and given that this was not the first time she had been gone for more than a few days her family did not report her missing. However, by the time she had not returned on Christmas Eve her family reported her missing. Police believe that she was killed elsewhere and then her body was dumped in the field. The body was not identified as Ashley until DNA results came back in mid-June due to the state of the body when it was discovered. Police believe that her body was in the location it was found most of the winter.
One of the biggest problems with this case is that ever since the body was identified there has been practically no information about this murder. Police never disclosed how Ashley was killed. They have never said as to whether they have any suspects. In fact, there has been no discernable update regarding this case since June 2003.
