Atlanta Child, 5, Dies From Local Anesthesia

Five-year-old Kensley Kirby was taken to an Atlanta urgent care center to get treated for a broken arm, but died from a lethal dose of local anesthesia given to her at the clinic, an Atlanta coroner confirmed.

how horrible! i can't fathom... dying while getting a broken arm fixed. such a routine procedure.

Doesn't even say what kind of doctor administered the lethal dose or if it was a nerve block and what kind.

This is very rare ( I do anesthesia for a living) and I'm just heartbroken.

My suspicion is the clinic doctor did a block that went systemic and an anesthesia provider was not even present although I could be wrong.

Agree with you 100%. I know exactly where you are coming from...... being a scrub tech for the last 16 years.
