Australia - 4 people dead on Dreamworld's Thunder River Rapids ride, Gold Coast, 2016

It looks like they are focussing on re-opening (BBM):

Dreamworld deaths: Theme park re-opening dependent upon safety review
Park chief executive Craig Davidson said the park would remain closed indefinitely.
"No ride will open at Dreamworld without a methodical process of mechanical and operational review overseen by no less than four organisations," he said.
"We are close to finalising a timeline for this review, and this timeline will dictate when we reopen.
"I don't have a specific date for you today."
Mr Davidson said Dreamworld's capital works program has resumed, with contractors returning to the park.
"Work will recommence on construction of the Lego store, this remains on track to be open before Christmas," he said.
"We are also progressing works to complete Tiger Island Stage 2."

Earlier today Dreamworld announced it would permanently close the water ride at the centre of last month's deadly accident.
Ardent Leisure chief executive officer and managing director Deborah Thomas said in a statement the ride would be permanently closed out of respect for the victims and their families.
"The closure of the ride is the only respectful and appropriate course of action," Ms Thomas said in a statement.

I wouldn't think of taking my family or friends to Dreamworld now.

http://www.smh.com.au/business/prop...amworld-future-this-week-20161108-gsklm1.html

While it is tipped to remain a theme park in the medium term, the site spans 850,000 square metres and sits in a growth corridor for residential housing.
"Our initial view is that Ardent's carrying value for Dreamworld of $235 million would be supported under this scenario," Credit Suisse analysts said.
Property agents have said the site could also be redeveloped into a mixed-use hotel and retail area to connect with the nearby Coomera town centre.

So Ardent may receive their thirty pieces of silver after all? How unjust that they may profit from this tragedy. I hope the families of those killed receive every penny of Ardent's 'property windfall' as compensation for their losses.

I think that Ardent will probably first up try to recover some of their losses by trying to get tourists there for the upcoming high summer season.
At times, what a strange, heartless, round the wrong way and cold world we live in :cold:

I doubt the standard of 'tourists' will be very high. Ardent are still tempting The Fates. Good luck with that...

Disgusting & disgraceful!

And there they are. RIP trolls and ghoulish tourists. I can just imagine the t-shirts being printed in a SE Asian sweatshop for 'Dream'world's gift shop right now, 'I visited Dreamworld...and survived!' Sad, sick situation.

That is so not ok.

I still can't believe they are acting like they are going to reopen. An airport attack, or a university shooting makes sense have to re-open - not something like this imo

It is decent they are paying their people that would never happen here trust me- they give em week and send them on their way

Damage control. Decent or necessary? I think their name would be mud if they let staff go right now. Wait for it...

I know that is what I am saying. Life does go on. But how these idiots think that people can come ride the rides is absurd.

And I so compare all this to Pulse. She never struggled with like should I reopen , hell no. That is not where she was.

These people are being more and more disgusting - its a month now and they are still announcing to the world they are not sure what date they are going to open.

That is beyond repulsive to me. And imo the deal is this place and Pulse were about "fun"

How can these people think that fine the murder ride is gone, but lets go ride some other rides. That is just disgusting to me.

Accidents happen - but like Austin IMO, the degree of gruesomeness does matter. These were horrific , deaths.

And its fine for all of us to (for our own protection emotionally) to try to kinda avoid the reality these were slow gruesome awareness dying. Getting hit by a trin it over.

All four of these people sufferred in dying.

Its fine (not really) but this fantasy that Orlando police have put it out , regarding Pulse,is a crock. Hours passed. People bled out for hours and died.

How it works - its insulting to pretend that that was not the case.

Would any of us be agry with LW No - but to sit here and say that the death toll would be different if other stuff was different is obnoxious imo

Same here - if staffing numbers were different, and the stuck one was caught earlier - this would not have happened.

all jmo this hs ben a very upsetting event for me

i guess people react to things like this in different ways,

personally (speaking for myself only) i would have no problem going to this park and having a good time after it reopened,

life goes on, get over it (that is general comment, not directed at you or anybody in particular)

Yes, I think people have been truly shocked by both events. There needs be at least some healing time for the families and friends of those killed and for the communities. Also, an acknowledgement of any culpability and restitution found necessary. This type of horror occurred at Sydney's Luna Park many years ago when the Ghost Train ride caught fire and seven people were incinerated. The park did reopen eventually, under new management but, for me, it has never quite been the same wonderful place I remember from my youth - despite a tasteful memorial to those souls taken far too soon.

Dreamworld CEO Craig Davidson has confirmed the ride had stopped on the day of the tragedy, but said reports it had been closed because of maintenance issues were incorrect.
"On that day we had not shut down the ride for maintenance," he told ABC radio on the Gold Coast on Monday.
"But the ride had stopped a couple of times throughout the day."
Mr Davidson said he could not go into details about why the ride had stopped as the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

It stopped because it was clearly malfunctioning in some way or another. It SHOULD have been stopped for maintenance and wasn't, I'm sure.

Dreamworld tragedy impacts other Gold Coast theme parks

'THE horrific deaths of four people at Dreamworld last month has led to a drop in visitor numbers across all theme parks on the Gold Coast.'

'Dreamworld has been closed since the accident, and has announced it will permanently decommission the ride involved.'

'Village Roadshow chairman Robert Kirby revealed yesterday at the company’s *annual general meeting that business had been “inconsistent” since the accident at Dreamworld, owned by Ardent Leisure.'

'Village Roadshow shares have failed to return to their $5.25 mark prior to the Dreamworld tragedy, while shares in Ardent Leisure also remain about 25 per cent lower.'

'In a statement on Friday morning, the State Government said its safety audits of Queensland theme parks were on track to be completed by the end of the November.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said workplace safety investigators had completed a full audit of amusement rides at Movie World.'

'“The safety audits are ongoing at Dreamworld and White Water World, and inspectors have now commenced audits at Wet’n’Wild.

“From next week, safety inspectors will move on to Sea World, Aussie World and Australia Zoo for the next phase of the audits."'

'At Dreamworld, there is still no definitive date on when the theme park will reopen.'

'It is understood park officials are eyeing off a date around the end of this month or early next month.

Work has resumed on the planned Lego store and expansion of Tiger Island with both on track to be finished ahead of the school holidays.

Many Dreamworld staff have returned to work, but even those who haven’t remain on full pay during the park’s closure.

The shrine of flowers that dominated the entrance to Dreamworld following the tragedy has been removed to be incorporated into a permanent memorial.'

Fair dinkum they can't take a trick can they?

Green Lantern ride stuck at Movie World on Gold Coast

'THE Green Lantern ride at Movie World on the Gold Coast is reportedly stuck.

It is not known how many people have been affected.

The incident occurred shortly after 1pm when a carriage became stuck at the top of the ride.'

So much for the much-touted full audit, ie:

'Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said workplace safety investigators had completed a full audit of amusement rides at Movie World.'

Oops...must've missed a spot...

I wouldn't call a "brief stoppage" an half an hour and would definitely be giving the Green Lantern a miss re last years glitch.

A computer fault was to blame for a popular rollercoaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast becoming stuck, the theme park has said.
The Green Lantern rollercoaster came to a standstill this afternoon, with footage emerging online showing one cart stuck at the top of a conveyor belt on the highest point of the ride.
The "brief stoppage" lasted approximately half an hour, a spokesman said.

and

The same ride malfunctioned in March 2015 when a wheel component became loose and stranded 13 people, some for as long as three-and-a-half hours.
Firefighters were called to rescue riders during the 2015 incident but a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the park had not called for their services on Sunday.

Rides becoming stopped is actually somewhat common. And the fact that it stopped is probably a good thing. Better than a malfunction where the safety stops don't work or whatever.

I've been stuck on rides at Disneyland quite a few times. Had to be evacuated once.

Dreamworld accident and other tragedies shows Australia is suffering from ‘mourning sickness’

http://catholicleader.com.au/analysis/dreamworld-accident-and-other-tragedies-shows-australia-is-suffering-from-mourning-sickness

Have read, re read and again read.
Just my opinion, BS and out of touch imo.
Please, no guilt for the innocent.

Understandable when you consider the source. Not always known for their compassion. An extremely long, and absolutely unnecessary, bow to draw.
