Do you think the three of them had permission to speak for the family. And is what those three say the official statement that the family want to make public.
Or would they just be people who the media have contacted for a comment.
I've just remembered to add a link. The distance of 292m is calculated by Google Maps. There's a measuring feature where you make a line and it tells you how far it is. Incidentally, the zero point is where I think the sand hills are.

from what I remember, it was clear that they had permission to speak for the family but they didn't have anything new to say

that's a good point, would sheep dogs follow Gus and try to 'herd' him home?

Sheep dogs can hear a car from a mile away, maybe 2 miles is stretching the imagination, but that's where I was coming from with all this business about the distance to the closest public road.

There are some dogs that look like kelpies (working dogs) near the farmhouse in the last bit of this video at approximately 1:35
They might not have been near the house at the time Gus allegedly disappeared though, often they are used by farmers to help with sheep work. They could have been kilometres away helping other family members on the property.
It means that police are looking at human intervention as a possibility and are investigating this as a possible crime. The family are also confronted with the prospect that this wasn’t a case of Gus wandering off and becoming lost, adding another layer of devastation.
Those close to Gus will be scruntized by investigators, which is to be expected in a case like this. This potentially adds to the trauma those people may already be suffering, when they could be totally innocent.
Difficult for police because they will need to be sensitive while investigating every scenario. imo

From what I've seen is that working dogs are kept tied up at a kennel unless with the owner. If a car stopped on Oak Park Road and they had dogs at the homestead I think they would have barked.
From what I know there is no other property perhaps in the world where you have to open and close 5 gates to get to the house and that includes the massive Anna Creek station also in South Australia that's about 15,000sqkm in size (give or take 5000sqkm).
Does anyone know of a public road that has gates across it?

I wonder if this could mean that he is non-verbal?? Maybe he couldn’t call out if he was taken? Just thinking out loud….

Thanks for posting this, it's the first time I knew the home was not km after km away from a public roadway, and it changes things for me. From some rough googling, it appears that Oak Park Rd runs from Sturt Vale Rd through to Bullyaninnie Rd, near Grampus, for a reasonable distance. On Google maps it appears to be a decent road, considering the location, as in it doesn't look like a spindly track that leads nowhere. The road seems very sparse, without many properties along the entire length of it. There's a few dams close to the roadway, a treed area, and both ends appear to have a river crossing, which may or may not be dry.
This now suggests to me that Gus could easily have travelled the distance required to get to the roadway. If he didn't stay on a track, he could maybe have encountered only one gate or fence before he was off the property. From there, there's several possibilities. He could have been lost well outside of the property's boundary. He could have been picked up by someone (known to him or not) on the road, and he could have been hit and killed on the road, with someone covering up the crime/accident. That time of the afternoon, the sun is setting and it can be hard to see. I can't work out what direction the road runs in, but I know driving into sunlight at the wrong time of day can be blinding.

That’s an interesting thought, but it’s probably a bit of a stretch given how little is known publicly. Describing Gus as “quiet” could mean a range of things, personality, temperament, or just how he interacts socially, and doesn’t necessarily suggest he’s non-verbal. Hopefully more details will emerge soon to help clarify things.

One of them, Bill Harbison, read to the media a statement prepared by the family.
Now in the fourth day of the search, a friend of the boy's family, Bill Harbison, read a statement on their behalf on Tuesday, saying they were "devastated by the disappearance of our beloved Gus".
"This has come as a shock to our family and friends, and we are struggling to comprehend what has happened," an emotional Harbison said.
"Gus’s absence is felt in all of us, and we miss him more than words can express.
"Our hearts are aching and we are holding onto hope that he will be found and returned to us safely."

You're not going to own a station without having working dogs.
There will be dogs on that property. I'm not sure what kind, there are a number of breeds of dog that would be on a station, but there will be dogs, I would say at least 2 or more that live permanently on that station.

Well if Oak Park Road isn't public then that explains it all and the police were correct.

I believe it is a public road and is state maintained from Sturt Vale Road to Oak Park Station entrance. The road past that and upto Bullyaninnie Station is most likely just a well used bush track.
