I wish the family had not spoken to the Daily Mail reporter.

Seeing they are so private ( good on them ) I find hard to believe they told the DM about this at all.

It's also mentioned in the article that "locals " not the grand parents , told the Daily Mail that the parents also have a 1yr old , who lives at the property.

The recent revelations about the grandmother's partner have brought back to me something which struck me when the photo of Gus was first released, which is that I immediately thought I was looking at a photo of Jon-Benet Ramsey. Gus appears to be a very "girlie" looking boy, so are his mother and grandmother attempting to raise him as a girl?

Many young boys have long hair…. It does not mean anything.

Were there any old wells or mine shafts or just things like old cars, fridges etc.

Or was it wild life, like kangaroos, feral pigs, snakes etc.

Perhaps he thought the way Gus was raised was dangerous (free range type parenting maybe?), or that he didn't agree with the lifestyle of the grandparents, and "dangerous" meant impacting on how Gus thought about topics like gender, sexuality etc as he grew older. (Don't shoot the messenger - people sadly do think like that, and Gus' father had "clashes" with Josie so it fits.)

He is 4, how masculine do you need him to be? FYI Boys can have long hair, play with dolls and like pink.


Think you mean grandma's female partner. Both grandparents are female.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assumed - possibly my first mistake - that Josie used to be Gus' grandfather, and Shannon his grandmother and they remained in a relationship post transition, with both taking the grandmother name, or some variation on that.

That might well be the case, I was just trying to distinguish between the two grandparents. Rather than saying grandma and grandma!

@MelmothTheLost as you are a volunteer investigator with Locate International, I would be very interested in your thoughts about how you think the investigation into finding Gus has gone so far and would you have done anything differently.

With your Locate experience and being on here for 9 years I thought you may have some useful insight, experience or knowledge of carrying out a search to find a missing 4 year old such as Gus. Only if you want to, of course

I am a civilian volunteer and have no LE background or experience and have so far only worked on UID cases rather than missing persons. My comments are also made in a personal capacity as I do not speak for Locate.

However, from what I have noticed from watching missing persons cases from afar is that LE do have experience and do know what they are doing, even if the general public find that hard to believe. There will always be other lines of enquiry going on in the background which LE do not necessarily make known, and just because LE don't say that X is being looked into it should not be assumed that X is not being looked into. Some lines of enquiry will be exhausted and ruled out, others may be downgraded temporarily and revived later on if circumstances change.

Statistically, there is a high correlation between the death and disappearance of young children and the home/family environment.

We don't know which parenting style was utilised.

Kids can and are raised differently in the country. They have to be. You need different skills as a kid on a property than you would as a child in the suburbs or city.

I know a little country kid who is 4 and is super into everything about bull riding. I know another who helps his grandma collect the chicken's eggs for their family.

It's a nice way to grow up. A bit different to a child who is for example glued to a cell phone device from a young age.

Gender and sexuality are two different things.

Imagine if Gus grew up to be tolerant of others and see people as people.

Wouldn't it be great if he had the chance to grow up? Instead he's presumably lost in the bush or somewhere else.

Yes it looks like the grandparent relationship continued post transition.

Reporting is supposed to help people. Imagine getting gossipy and tabloidy when a 4 year old child is missing and possibly dead. It's shameful.

I agree with this (if this is in fact what actually happened and nothing more sinister happened). I personally also don't think leaving a 4 year old out where he was for half an hour is that bad. It's a very very rural property and he was right outside the house.

Stranger danger is not the only thing that should be taken in consideration for safety of a child. There are many places and things on the farm a kid should be kept away from.

The family of August ‘Gus’ Lamont has spoken publicly for the first time since police called off a massive search for the missing four-year-old.

I don't understand why DM is attacked
The way I see it
the grandparents were not forced to talk to the reporters
and my opinion is they also didn't hide the trans matter.
