Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

Yes i tend to agree with you about the dingoes. You would expect to see drag marks or find clothing or shoes. It would be helpful to know what wild animals are in the area. About the only other animal would be boar.
The only animal that would leave no evidence would be a wild boar.

It's highly unlikely dingoes are in that particular area, due to the dog fence and a high baiting area.

This site has recorded information for wild dog sightings and appears to be none near Oak Park Station.

AI Overview
  • Current Situation:
The station is the site of a massive search for Gus, which has involved police, the SES, and the Australian Defence Force.

Just to share a personal anecdote for context: my brother went missing around the same age on my uncle's cattle property. Different terrain - his was lush green grass, sloping hills, a creek deep enough for a 4yo to drown in, wombat holes, old mine shafts, and lots of fenced paddocks.
On his property they kept working dogs that were caged and kept separate when they weren't working (they were kept in a caged run where there was an expanse of grassed area and a kennel to sleep in) but he also had a farm dog that interacted with the family.

About 6 of us went looking for him fearing the worst but also thinking he couldn't have gotten far. He got far! He was able to pass through multiple fenced paddocks and when we eventually found him he had the farm dog with him.

Given the relatively flat scrubby ground 4yo's can get pretty far on foot especially when there are no obstacles in their way and at that age they'd be savvy enough to unlock, lock gates if they knew already how to do it.
Do you know what caused him to wander so far ? Was he following something or just on an adventure?

I've been scratching my head a bit. The terrain looks relatively flat, the vegetation sparse, so... How long was this kid alone that he managed to walk out of Granma's sight? That cobalt blue shirt should have made him visible from a lot of distance.
This case is disturbing. Where on earth is this little boy?

A four year old can’t go further than 6kms in two hours of daylight . If he was on the property he would’ve been found the next day.

There are no wild dogs or pigs in the area.
If Gus was deceased birds of prey would be circling overhead.
The trackers found no trace of him.
Hundreds of searchers combed the area and not a trace was found.
Gus is not there.
Clearly this means he has been taken from the property by someone.

If my child was missing I would be pleading with the public for help. Not sure why Gus’s family aren’t doing this.

He had undiagnosed ADHD at the time and was just an adventurous kid who felt no fear. He was capable of doing things i would've have even dreamt of at that age! A farm is a fun place to go exploring when youre a kid i guess.

They haven't really given much insight into the GL's personality apart from being shy and adventurous.

Someone more local may have more definitive information but from what I've read I don't believe there are wild pigs in this area.

there is plenty of wild pigs within that area and they are slowly taking over along with goats.

Are you local to the area? I'm not meaning to pry, but you do seem incredibly knowledgeable.

The 5 year old Darius in Canada is also still missing :(

I follow both threads waiting for info.

Please, it is really a good idea to put a GPS tracker bracelet on a child's wrist.
We should take advantage of modern technology to save children's lives.

No I'm not a local. Have been through Yunta many times on the way to Adelaide. Originally from Broken Hill and then spent a big chunk of my life in a very small town not far from Broken Hill surrounded by stations. My 2 brothers have worked on many stations, so I guess some of my knowledge come from stories they have told.

I've been on a few pigging trips and I've seen first hand what boars can do to a pigging dog and within seconds cause so much damage. Unfortunately sometimes you can't save the dog, but if near by you can. A lone 4yr old boy up against a boar would definitely have no chance at all IMO.

Just watching the news reports and the two different perspectives, one from the former neighbour who is an experienced tracker familiar with the area and a former SES volunteer. After the search, as it was moving into the recovery stage RP, the goat herder former neighbour and tracker, reckons "he's somewhere here still, that's my gut feeling." JO'C on the other hand who volunteered with the SES for 11 years and searched for GL with his partner said he was "very doubtful he is on the property" noting the lack of prey birds before saying "he's not on the property."

I agree that he could travel 6 km in two hours. But it is not necessarily true that he would be found the next day. Searchers's work progresses slowly. A 6 km radius covers an area of approximately 27,940 acres.

If Gus was on the property surely he would’ve been found dead or alive by now

IMO
The boy didn't wander off into the open area.
I think he might have got stuck inside some buildings/machinery/sheds, etc, on this property.

There are also other possibilities.

I agree with Retired Police Detective Charlie Bezzina. I think it's possible Gus was taken by an animal.

I can't help but think about the dad. According to the DailyMail he lived on the family property until he had a clash with "the child's transgender grandparent."

(I'm interpreting this as a descriptor, not that he had a personal issue with being trans as he would have known long before he moved in.)

I wonder what the clash was over. The dad said to a friend "(he) doesn't think its safe for the kids to be out there, its dangerous."

I wonder what hes referring to. The way they kept the homestead? The way GL was parented? Maybe given too much freedom to roam for a 4 yo?

Whatever it was it was a big enough deal and enough conflict for him to move out and now a little boy is gone.
