Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

  • #1,121
Some additional information about the family provided in this DM article. Josie is confirmed as Jess’ biological parent and Josh (Gus’ biological father) has been ruled out of involvement with the disappearance (unsure where the DM confirmed this as they don’t list a source). The article also states that the house Josh is living in last sold in 2022, it is unclear if Josh purchased the house or is renting.

“Born Robert Murray, Josie is Jess’s biological father. Josie’s wife, Shannon, is Jess’s biological mother. Locals say Josie transitioned around 2015.”

“Late on September 27, the night Gus vanished, Josh was found asleep in his home by police.

It’s unclear why Jess had not phoned to tell him their child was missing, but analysis of his movements that day are believed to have ruled out any involvement in the disappearance.”
So the size of the property has changed again: now it's 150,000 acres, and "even reaching the nearest minor road would involve an 18-mile walk along the drive to the property".

paragraph deleted, silly me

Is that something that happens, for a trans woman to father a child 6 years after she transitioned?
Josie is the grandparent

Hi everyone
New member because I’ve become so invested in this case I’m searching for anything online that offers some answers. Used to work out near Yunta and find this whole thing so concerning. Re abduction- I don’t understand how someone could have driven out there and taken little Gus without leaving fresh tyre tracks? Or would they just be merged in with police tracks etc who then drove out to look for him- so then they just got mixed in with that? Can’t get my head around how anyone could have taken him out of. The family would’ve noticed fr

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I am curious about what all this is (circled in red by me), less than 1km west of the Oak Park homestead.
It looks like a scrap yard?
I imagine it would take a long time to search thoroughly.

On the balance of probabilities I don’t think Gus is very far from the property. There’s always a first time for everything but if he had never wandered off before it’s probable he didn’t stray very far if he did. But toddlers are unpredictable so he could’ve gone anywhere unfortunately. This is quite simply a haunting case.
At 4 years old, I wouldn't classify Gus as a toddler by any means. I do think that he is going to be much fitter and have better stamina than an urban or suburban child of his age and could therefore have walked further than we might expect, but I would hope that has been taken into account when the search was planned.

If Gus’s family were watching the Grand Final, which was on at the time of his disappearance, he could’ve been taken without being seen by them.
There may not have been noticeable tyre marks if the road is gravel or well used with farm vehicles

That’s not the right homestead

It could be a scrap yard. I posted further back that on the day that the search was scaled back, the SES were searching a nearby scrap yard.

It is mentioned in this article.

I hope this is alllowed. I was doing some reading on thermal drone usage and found this interesting article about how thermal drones have been used recently in Australia to locate an endangered species of tree kangaroo. The research study was in a different state but the animals were discovered successfully in a very large, densely vegetated area. I wonder if this is similar to the drones used by the SAR team, if so, they appear very effective and useful.

So technically the police may not have been able to necessarily see new car tracks, per se. Timing re grand final is interesting I agree I hadn’t realised that. And loud tv on etc.

I pray they find lil Gus soon. But I have a bad feeling there’s more to this story than we’ve been told. All of the family need to take lie detector test imo to help rule them in or out. He should have been found by now. Someone’s not telling the truth imo.

Everyone at home at the time would have been questioned and we should be able to trust the homicide squad to know what they're doing when solving a missing child case, so it should not be up to us to tell them where to look or how to interview.

True, it's not showing the homestead buildings. But those two buildings in the bottom left quadrant of the photo you're referencing are actually the two buildings that are pretty much due west of the homestead group of buildings in other photos. If I remember correctly, they've been estimate to be about 1 km from the homestead.

You can see the larger relationship better in Post #1,107 (or thereabouts - I know the post numbers can change if mods have to do any cleaning up).

Given their private lifestyle, it's hard to believe that a person could and would attempt such a remote location for an abduction. It's hard to imagine an abductor taking off, child in tow, and managing to open and close all the gates, all the while hoping no one sees or hears them. It defies logic.

I am not nearly so remote, but I can hear a car heading up our gravel road from 2-4 kms away, depending on how still it is.

You can’t see the homestead in the screen shot, and it is incorrectly labeled as Oak Vale Station, in street map view it shows the correct label as Oak Park.

I'm finding it extremely difficult to find where those six gates everyone keeps mentioning would be located to get to the homestead.
Would you or someone else be able to take a screenshot from Google maps showing where those gates are, please?

The gates will be stock gates across the road at various points to seperate paddocks, often connected to barbed wire fencing. They may be hard to see via google maps. Sometimes they will also have a cattle grid across the road. This is a very typical set up for a large station in Australia, I have visited communities and stations where you had to pass through gates on a technically public road. The rule of travel is you leave a gate as you found it, so you open the gate, drive through then close it again.

it’s highly unlikely but it is possible an opportunist came across Gus .Surely If this has happened someone out that way would’ve noticed a car in the area because of the remoteness and dust .
