Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

I’m not sure exactly but wasn’t thinking the fridge or freezer. Somewhere unexpected like a silo, tank, chimney or maybe under a building perhaps 🤔
I'd be surprised if there were any such places that the family don't know about and wouldn't have made the search parties aware of right at the start. The trapped somewhere scenario almost certainly would fall within the scope of accident and there would therefore be no reason for the family not to make searchers aware of such places - if indeed they hadn't already initially checked them themselves.

I did query it early on in this discussion, specifically in terms of when shearing season was and whether any of the contract shearing crew would still have been on the station. Another poster reported that the season ended in September, though not when in September that was likely to be.

Since it was the end of the season by the end of September, I would imagine (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that the shearing crew would not be moving on to another job but returning to their usual homes after completing work on this property. How large would a crew be for shearing 3000 sheep, which is the reported stock level? In any event, the police will have spoken to them all by now. (The crew, not the sheep.)

I had assumed they would have been gone all day. Would it have made sense to go out at 4pm with barely a couple of hours of daylight left, to do jobs 10km or half an hour's drive away?
We don't know what time they went out. We don't even know what time they came back. I don't know what I don't know.

Cell towers collect data from users, including their location, signal strength and network activity. A cell phone is always communicating with the network, even when not on a call.
Location tracking is done by measuring the signal strength and the phones approximate location in a process called Cell Tower TRIANGULATION.
Data examined by law enforcement of cell data may require a warrant in some cases.
I'm a bit familiar with it due to Samantha Murphy case. I've forgotten or perhaps we don't know if they knew DS was a suspect first before requesting the tower information or the tower information lead to his name first being on radar. I assume the later. I'm assuming it may be harder to pinpoint a phones location at a particular time near Oak Park than Mt Clear in Ballarat and that wasn't supposedly easy due to far distances of the towers to triangulate etc

In the CS case in Western Australia it was definitely one ping in a phone tower dump that led them to Terence Kelly. The ping led investigators to the perp.

Fresh details have emerged about how close Terence Darrell Kelly, the abductor of Cleo Smith, came to slipping through the net.

A single ping to a phone tower, that was only built in 2018, led detectives to him 18 days after the four-year-old was snatched from the family tent at the Quobba Blowholes campsite on Western Australia’s midwest coast, in October 2021.

Josh is staying in Adelaide with his brother Samuel. Are you saying that house belongs to his in-laws?
Yes. The house belongs to Shannon and Josie Murray.

IMO

That’s what the DM article said.

The way I have followed this is that JL is not currently living at his Belalie North property.
Yes that’s my understanding also.
Following Gus going missing he had been staying with his brother in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

It currently seems he is staying on a separate property in the Adelaide metropolitan area which is reportedly owned by the M family.
That’s what was reported, yes.
All that said, I believe DM are constantly harassing the family and where JL is currently staying (to escape the harassment and prying eyes) and the cost of various properties has nothing to do with locating little Gus. I’d react angrily towards hounding media too if it were me.

IMO.
Are they? Or are they trying to address the huge public interest in the case by giving Josh a chance to speak or give an interview about his son, who he would be missing desperately.

I also want to note that Bruce Lehermann tried to have Karleigh Smith (same journalist who door knocked Josh at Murray’s house near Adelaide) charged with stalking, attempted to get a restraining order out on her, and that was denied, as she was legally going about her job.

“Lehrmann had launched legal action in Hobart magistrates court against Karleigh Smith, a senior Daily Mail reporter based in NSW.

A story titled “We found the despised party boy hiding at the end of the Earth”, about Lehrmann living in Tasmania, was published by Daily Mail Australia in July with Smith’s byline.”

Moving back to the Lamont matter: Some parents who are victims of crime want to be heard, and they have a story to tell. Josh’s child is missing. He’s only 4.

Josh didn’t want to tell his story that day, that’s fine, but public interest in Gus’ disappearance won’t go away. IMO

Karleigh is doing her job, and just like in the William Tyrrell case (Candace Sutton’s reporting on that case has always been the best) the Daily Mail here are doing a better job of investigative reporting in Gus’ case than the other mainstream media in Australia. And why? Because they are not beholden to any government interests here in Australia. So they’re free to pursue the truth.

IMO

Judging by the amount of negative comments about it, I would say that the huge public interest does not include harassing the family for 'their story'.

Harassing (in this case) meaning approaching the family when they have clearly asked media to stay away.

Public opinion seems to say that it is not okay.

Some may not be concerned about the distress it causes, as long as the public is fed with irrelevancy to the case.

And seeking a grieving family's story should not include then publishing articles about their negative reactions. Just quietly go away, drop it, they don't want to speak with the media.

imo

There is no new info about Gus any more.
It seems Media "just quietly went away" just as the little boy "quietly disappeared".

Who could blame them?

Indeed. If the father wants to talk I’m sure he’s perfectly capable of contacting the media and requesting an interview. Unless any evidence comes to light that Gus’s relatives aren’t cooperating with police then their desire to maintain privacy should be respected and seen as perfectly normal, imo.

"Giving him a chance to speak" after he said he does not want it is a book definition of harassment.

DM have asked Josh and those around him for comment several times and every time DM have been told in various ways to go away. It’s clear he does not want to talk to DM. Speaking with DM will not bring Gus home and it has nothing to do with how much Josh is missing Gus and trying to come to terms with what has happened and how this will impact him for the rest of his life.

I seem to recall that Josie had banned Josh from the house, does anyone recall why that was?
and when???
Has been noted previously that it is not clear when Josh was allegedly ‘banned’ from the Yunta property, for how long or why.

Sure, but don't go believing such small prints whilst it takes much more to discover ping approach under the covers, and actually while gsm lte 4g cellular technology is complex, pinging does not find a location, it works by the time it takes for a data package to transmit and then receive from a cell tower, hence the speed versus dBm is a result in perhaps location.

Just one more thing, you can not operate an automatic gate system from satellite and gsm technology only with a telecommunications carriers, without a live satellite connection.
Wifi boosters and extenders may be an answer on a farm station sooooo big.

If it was me on such a size of a property, I would definitely look into LoRaWAN technology
Expensive, but hey
Why not

Is it really that bad having someone knock on your door a couple of times?
I live in a country town and yes people here don't like door knockers compared to larger towns I lived for example. To blow up about it and make a big deal about a simple question or two is also not the country way.
Just say "no, if I do want to talk leave me your card, if not please don't come back again or any future talk is off the table" or something similar.
I don't get how people are making out like it's a big deal.
