Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

  • #3,241
Thank you for reposting this.

It was warm that day wasn’t it?

Gus was appropriately dressed for the spring weather. In that area they would be acclimatised to summer daytime temps in the 40Cs (100Fs), winter daytime temps of about 16C (60F).

A long sleeve t-shirt was appropriate.

I've been away from the thread for a bit. Has the Daily Mail uncovered something that has moved this case forward? I've seen some posts saying they've done some important investigative reporting. This thread is so long. Have I missed a recent link? Thank you in advance for pointing me in the right direction. :)

Nothing new.
No new evidence.
No new leads.
New search is being prepared by Police.

Excellent observation, @TMich6811.

Although given Gus was also wearing a hat, perhaps the long sleeves were for sun protection for his wee arms.

But that brings me back to my query @SouthAussie responded to with a reminder Gus' shirt image was posted.

Why were images of Gus' hat, trousers, boots and shovel not also published by LE?

In my mind every detail matters, and if there's a chance he was abducted, having the public on the lookout for kids dressed like that or discarded items might help.

IMO.
I'm pretty sure no-one on a working property as the time or thought to photograph their kids everyday day.
LE have always maintained that Gus wasn't taken, although they are keeping an open mind.
The logistics of an abduction just doesn't stack up. A vehicle would have been heard and seen. Dogs would have barked. Dust would have been seen.

Is it fact that police are preparing for a forth search? I thought they said they would if they thought it necessary.

Police announced another search.

The 4th one.

It is probably going to be a while before they conduct another search (unless they are doing spot searches which they are not announcing).

Police Commissioner Grant said on 5th November that the additional imaging (to 10km from the homestead) would take 'several weeks' to complete.

That could mean it will be until sometime next week, or even later, for the imaging to be finished ... and how long will the analysis take? Are they analysing as they image, or is analysis all done upon completion of the imaging? Only they know.

Exactly!
3000 sheep and no pastures.
(Or, at least, adequate ones IMO!!!)

Sheep prefer to graze on lush pastures,
eating a variety of plants like grasses, legumes and other broadleaf forbs.

In my country, the sheep 🐏 are taken to rich pastures in the he hills by shepherds in spring
and they return home in autumn.

But in Australian conditions,
it seems to me
deliveries of food for the animals must be regular.

JMO
No, I don't think supplemental delivery of food to the sheep is probably regular at all. Sheep in this district graze throughout the year on natural pasture, including salt bush amongst others . Their grazing activity interacts with the plant cycle and to some extent influences which pastures re-crop from year to year IIUC.

Water is the issue generally, not food, although in drought, supplemental feed, specifically formulated for stock (the feed is grain based) may be needed.

Link to source below is dated 1997, however moo it provides relevant info regarding this specific pastoral district - topography, soil, vegetation, climate, pasture types, geology, hydrogeology and more.

LE said slim to zero chance of him being taken.
Trackers said no signs of him wandering, he’s not on the property.
Family are cooperating with police.

No, nothing of import jmo. They took some candid photos of Gus' grand-parents in a car park, and were told to take a hike by Gus' Uncle when they arrived unsolicited at his home looking for JL IIUC. Jmo

The sheep eat that salt bush / blue bush that you see dotted all over the paddock.
If it’s necessary to supplement feed they could have hay or pellets or even molasses licks etc.

But I don’t think Josie & Jess were feeding the sheep, I haven’t seen that mentioned. I think it was said they were working with sheep.
I'd say some sort of supplement feeding is currently happening for the sheep at Oak Park.

Here is a image from DM, the article is dated 3rd November, these particular hay bales IMO arrived after the search for Gus had finished.

Earlier photo's/footage while search was happening didn't show these bales in this particular area of the station from what I've seen.

I think you only have to look at other cases to see how the families of missing people are treated by some "journalists"

And once it's online, it's online forever.

How many of us would be happy at the mean spirited garbage about us being dredged up for the rest of our lives.

This family seems very wise to me to not want contact with this particular media outlet.

Let this family be.

Move on from the Daily Mail discussion !!

It is distracting from discussion of what happened to Gus.

Thank you.

I'm interested to know, when, where, how livestock auctions would happen. Searched for it already, but can't find something relevant.

Agree. A good friend of mine is on the Iowa task force for child trafficking. It’s scary how it happens right under peoples noses. And in small communities too. She’s running for Senate and I hope she gets in. She’s a strong advocate
I feel like in Australia child trafficking is not really talked about too much. It’s like it’s a taboo topic, or maybe something we pretend does not happen in our country?

IMO

If school starts in January
the moving should be much earlier.
All preparations,
submitting documents, medical checks, vaccination, etc.

Starting school is associated with many administrative formalities.

( I should know, I'm a teacher ;) )

JMO
I would agree with this. If Gus was starting school in 2026 (rather than being homeschooled), his parents would have been asked to bring him to Kindergarten transition sessions. There are a variety of reasons why these transition opportunities are strongly encouraged. At Peterborough Public School, the transition mornings for Term 4 were/are:

Thurs 06-11-25 - Kindy Transition 9:00am-11:30am
Thurs 13-11-25 - Kindy Transition 9:00am-12:30pm
Thurs 27-11-25 - Kindy Transition 9:00am-1:30pm
Thurs 04-12-25 - Kindy Transition 9:00am-3:10pm

Poor kid. He possibly had a whole new adventure ahead of him - a chance to interact with other children his age.

That’s too bad . Stacy goes into any and every school that’ll let her in. Funny that our hometown private and public school won’t let her in to talk to their students. Politics and jealousy at its finest. Sooo sad. But every other small community around here lets her speak. Messed up

Dogs wouldn’t have barked if it’s a familiar vehicle.
