I think Shannon did it and Josie disposed of the body. They’re both involved and that’s why they aren’t talking.
If Josie killed him and also disposed of the body I doubt Shannon would still be covering.

It could also be the reverse, if they think Shannon is the guilty one. Maybe they are putting pressure on Josie to tell the truth, and taking the opportunity to speak to her about the situation with Gus while Shannon is not there?
My thinking is this is much less likely, for a couple of (related) reasons. But it centers around: JM is the one they arrested, not SM.

Let's say for the sake of speculating here that they did use this arrest as a strategic maneuver to separate the two of them for questioning. That they basically found and used a slap-on-the-wrist kind of violation they had noticed on an earlier search as an excuse to do so. (And side note, depending on the exact nature of the violation, it's possible that it was even something they could have chosen to arrest SM over instead, or both of them at the same time.)

What we know happened was they arrested JM, who then had to drive (alone) to the police station ~2 hours away, be processed, whatever else had to be handled there as part of the arrest, post bail, and drive back home (again, alone). SM was at Oak Park Station when the arrest happened (and possibly might not have even been able to leave it since JM had to take a vehicle, and SAPOL might still have the ones they seized, and we don't know how many they had to begin with).

If they engineered this situation, they did it in a way where, of the separated time that SAPOL bought for themselves, they filled JM's time with busywork while keeping SM free and clear for the entire time, and at the possible crime scene location. Something like 3 1/2 to 4 hours of travel time alone, wasted, plus all of the time at the police station having to actually focus on the charges the arrest was based on (and being restricted by whatever laws are in place there for how police have to handle people they have in custody and are charging with a crime).

And the other related reason: JM would be uncooperative and angry at the police station after being forced to drive ~2 hours to deal with a petty charge after/in the middle of everything that's happened between the family and SAPOL up to this point. ~2 hours of seething in the car about it, knowing that it was something trivial, and knowing it was going to be another long drive back. Almost certainly would have demanded a lawyer, because again, arrested and being charged with a crime, then sat in silence until the lawyer arrived, then dealt with them through the lawyer. If it's something low level enough to be allowed to drive yourself there, the charge isn't going to be serious enough to scare (and so pressure) you into spilling any secrets you've been holding, just enough to irritate/enrage you. It would further burn any bridge that might be remaining between JM and SAPOL.

I think the one they chose to arrest was the one they didn't have any hopes of having a good working relationship with in the future on this case. That they could count on it shutting a door, or saw it as a door that was already shut. This will be an antagonistic relationship going forward between them, any trust that may have once been built up, demolished. And I think the one they wanted to talk to alone was the one this arrest bought the most time to talk to alone, at home, in a setting where they can just talk, or where they can be walked through or shown anything that might be relevant on the property instead of having to squander that precious time on all of the bureaucratic routine kerfluffle that accompanies an arrest. Where they can still maintain a pleasant and helpful tone as they talk instead of accusatory. That's SM. Whom they could still have been conceivably getting a significant amount of information out of, alone, while JM was no longer in SAPOL custody and was making the long drive back home again, alone, and quite possibly fuming at SAPOL the whole way.

My own speculation and opinions only.

Just wanted to share and emphasize this point. And also add that leaving is hard enough that on average it takes DV victims 7 attempts to leave to free themselves of an abusive relationship. Each attempt is dangerous. There are a lot of powerful forces at work, and a lot of levers the abuser can use, to reel them back in, over and over again.
Moo....what is the reason for this DV conversation? Has there been rumors? Have there been assault or DV charges?

Moo... Well Jesse is now living with a friend. She has left Josh again. According to MSM. So I postulate possibly Josh was not welcome on farm for the way he treated Jesse. Josie is a protective caring parent and grandparent...moo

No one knows if there was any DV , there are no facts stating this at all between any family members ( if there is please post links ) , despite it being postured on here as facts IMO

"Second relative
no longer cooperating with case.

While Gus's parents continue to assist police,
two relatives previously involved in the inquiry
are no longer cooperating,
South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens
confirmed on Wednesday.

He added that
a wider search area would be cast for the missing boy.

'We're not ruling out anything.
Adjoining properties, including the national park, will form part of our investigation as we move forward',
Commissioner Stevens said."

Well, well, well ...
Kid gloves are discarded it seems.
Good 👍

JMO
Their legal people would have told them both to say nothing

YES!!!
💯

It seems to me that without actually finding Gus, the police dont quite have enough to lay charges. It would help everyone if the accused fessed up now and Gus was found. Moo.

Can we have a link to this msm report that Jess has left Josh again?

I’d also like to see any evidence leading you to this speculation of both the relationship status and how one person has treated the other.

It’s Jess or Jessica by the way.

Moo....what is the reason for this DV conversation? Has there been rumors? Have there been assault or DV charges?
Because SAPOL's major crime designation and current suspect implies that they believe one of the grandparents killed a 4-year old, hid his body, and fabricated the whole 'Gus wandered off' story, it's entirely possible that the other one helped at some point, and if one or both of those things are true it isn't a stretch to speculate that there was something seriously wrong going on in the household before that moment. I see other red (and orange and yellow) flags around this situation that could suggest DV (or turn out to be false flags), but that's the core of it for me. Which isn't the same as claiming that it's happening for certain, but I haven't seen anyone do that; I certainly haven't. But I'm also not going to pretend it's too rare to be a very real possibility here, or like it wouldn't go towards answering some lingering questions about some unusual things we've seen in the course of this investigation.

And yet neither of the parents are currently suspects in this major crime investigation, while JM might be, and whether the suspect or not is apparently no longer helping SAPOL investigate what happened to Gus, while SAPOL have stressed that both parents are still helping them in any way they can. And by all accounts Jess isn't staying at Oak Park Station with her parents any more, either, but is grieving somewhere in private. JL, meanwhile, seems to be considered the least involved in whatever happened to Gus of any of the adults in the family who have been named, since police seem to have established that he wasn't near the property, whereas Jess is part of the narrative of that day (but also not a suspect at this time).

grieving somewhere in private

👍🏻

I hope MSM keep it this way. Both parents must be going through hell; public eyes will be the last thing they are interested in.

Agree completely.

It's hard for me to believe that this firearms charge has no connection to this missing child incident. It seems like it is a minor infraction of some kind. WHY bother to bring the simple charges against someone in the middle of a possible homicide case?

I feel like there was some strategy involved. Maybe they wanted the two grandmothers to be separate from each other long enough for the detectives to speak to one or both of them alone?
Possibly just fingerprints, DNA?

It's very common for outdoor toilets here to have a concrete floor.

Much more common than having a wooden floor.

A wooden floor probably wouldn't last very long in an outdoor toilet in the outback. Insects.

That policeman sure doesn't look very happy, putting it mildly. OK, could be just stressed and tired, but... MOO

It is Police Commissioner Grant Stevens. Top police person in the state, and has been since 2015. He's got a lot on his plate.

imo
