The woman, a former midwife who blogged about her daughter’s ill health, is due to face the NSW District Court in Newcastle on Thursday.
The 44-year-old was charged after doctors noticed yeast and fungus growing in the nine-year-old’s intravenous drip after she was admitted to hospital in 2015 with renal failure.

Police allege that as well as injecting her daughter with urine, the mother also regularly fed her laxatives which caused peeling skin and a severe rash.
Detectives charged the woman, who cannot be identified with using poison to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A HUNTER mother accused of injecting her daughter with urine has been committed to stand trial on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and using poison to endanger life.


The mother appeared in Newcastle District Court on Thursday where she was committed to stand trial on February 4, 2019. She will next appear in the same court in May to be formally arraigned and plead to the charges.

There is a psychological disorder called Munchausen syndrome where people fake illness or injure themselves to get attention and sympathy. Related to this is the form where they make their child sick called Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy also known as ‘fabricated or induced illness by carers’ (FIIC). The latter a form of child abuse.
