Man found guilty for second time of murdering Goondiwindi mother

Robert Ian Trebeck again convicted of killing Goondiwindi mother Alexis Jeffery, after retrial

Robert Ian Trebeck has been found guilty for a second time of murdering a Goondiwindi mother-of-three, after he was granted a retrial in the Supreme Court in Toowoomba.

Key points
  • Trebeck was granted a retrial after he was found guilty of Alexis Jeffery's murder
  • He argued the case against him was circumstantial, and he had no motive to kill her
  • But a jury again found him guilty of the 2014 murder

Alexis Jeffery, whose naked body was found dumped on the banks of the Macintyre River in March 2014, was believed to have been smothered with her own jeans in the early hours of the morning after meeting Trebeck at a Goondiwindi pub.

The first trial, in the Toowoomba court in 2016, heard Ms Jeffery, 24, and Trebeck, 35, were seen being intimate in a park on the night of her murder.

Ms Jeffery's jeans were found in a hedge close to the scene two days after her body was found, with Trebeck's DNA on them.
