Police are appealing for public information to find a boy missing in the state’s north west.

Braxton Plant, aged six, was last seen at his home on Wallangra Road, Wallangra, about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 31 March 2021).

Emergency services were contacted at 7pm with officers attached to New England Police District commencing an investigation into Braxton’s whereabouts.

Police and family hold serious concerns for his welfare as Braxton has Down Syndrome and is non-communicative. The surrounding area comprises dense bushland and dams.

When he was last seen by family members, Braxton was playing in the mud and not wearing any clothes.

A coordinated land search has been conducted and will continue today (Thursday 1 April 2021), including assistance from Polair.

Investigators urge anyone who might have information about Braxton’s whereabouts to contact New England Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It's now almost 10 AM in Wallangra. Braxton has been missing for about 18 hours. As of now, the weather is about 18 C (65 F).

Braxton was last seen at 4 PM, police was contacted at 7 PM. There's a 3 hour gap, why? How often would someone check on Braxton? How soon were the police called when someone realized that Braxton went missing?

I don't know, maybe because he was playing in the mud? It does seem kind of odd.

UGH! I know. :( I want to be reasonable and I want to be understanding and sympathetic to his caregivers because I get it. Life happens and none of us are perfect parents/caretakers, but then we see so many other little kids who supposedly went out to play or whatever, and it turns out to be so tragic. I'm going to believe the 3-hour gap is because they were busy looking for him. :) Maybe there were many play places to check and many more folks to contact to make sure he wasn't with them before calling police?

I'll just hush and pray. I'll pray for his safety, his well-being, and for those who love him. I'll pray he's protected from harm until someone can find him. He looks so sweet and that precious smile. Come on, Braxton. Find a nice adult to help you get back where you belong.

Not wearing clothes could be a sensory thing. The 3 hour gap is more concerning to me personally

This little boy lives in a very rural community.
With his disabilities enjoying a nudie play in the sunshine post all the rain we have had, enjoying wet muddy puddles not dirtying his clothes is likely his mothers choice and a delightful thing to do at age 6.
AND NO NAFARIOUS REASON.
Am sure his family is beside themselves worrying about his welfare.
Lets focus on hoping he is found safe and sound.

A bit more info:

Braxton Plant was last seen at his home on Wallangra Road, Wallangra, north of Inverell, about 4pm yesterday.

Police said Braxton, who has Down Syndrome, was playing with his brother and cousin outside in the mud and wasn’t wearing any clothes at the time.

Police, SES, family and community members spent the night searching to no avail.

How frightening. Please be found safe little one. I’m very surprised in the amount of time it’s taken for media to report on this. A child is missing in bush land, with no clothes, for a whole night before it is picked up by media?! Praying he is found soon.

I'm hoping he's just wandered off and got very lost in the bush.
The chances of kidnapping a young child in a very, very rural part of Australia must be slim. To have a nefarious person go past at that precise moment, way out in the middle of nowhere. Although they do live in all walks of life......
Please be found quickly.

how old are his brother and cousin?
do they know which direction he wandered off to?
are there bodies of water nearby?

Looking at Google Maps, parts of Wallangra Rd look as though they are very close to the Macintyre River. I guess it would depend where exactly he went missing. Nearby areas have been subjected to extensive flooding recently, but I don’t know about Wallangra.

Also dams on the property according to the ABC News link above:

“Police have described the search area as “dense bushland” and said there were dams on the property.

"We’re hoping the child hasn't gone near the water,” Superintendent Laksa said.”

It’s been 24 hours :( where are you Braxton?

The lack of updates and media coverage is strange, IMO. Another thing I’m perplexed by is the comment in the ABC News article that he could be somewhere in the house. Do they really mean his own house? Surely they would have been able to rule that out by this morning when the article was posted. Then there’s the 3 hour time lapse before calling police.

Hopefully he is found and we get some more info soon.

I wonder if he also has ASD (thinking of the attraction of water for people with autism). ASD is more common in people with DS.

Little Braxton has been found deceased. He was pretty non communicative, so not unusual for him not to answer if people were calling him. The delay in calling the police was simply down to a pretty full on search for a little boy unlikely to answer- needed to be physically found. Today should have been his last day of school before the holidays- his Easter Hat Parade. Very sad for his family and community.

Oh my goodness, how devastating :( My thoughts are with his family and friends. What a horrible, tragic outcome.
