THE Bourke Street knifeman was not actively monitored prior to his stabbing frenzy, despite the fact intelligence agencies cancelled his passport three years ago.

In a press conference today, Victoria Police confirmed Somali-born killer Hassan Khalif Shire Ali had been known to intelligence agencies for years, but he was not being actively monitored prior to the attack.

They said his passport was cancelled in 2015 after ASIO determined he was planning to travel to Syria.

The Herald Sun has named veteran Melbourne cafe owner Sisto Malaspina as the victim of the brutal attack after he was reportedly stabbed on Bourke Street.

A FORMER nurse who desperately tried to revive Sisto Malaspina after he was attacked by a crazed terrorist has revealed the tragic final moments of the iconic Melbourne restaurateur’s life.

The single mum performed CPR on Mr Malaspina after she saw him fall to the ground near the corner of Russell Place and Bourke St.

But the stab wound, just above his collarbone, had punctured a major artery, causing him to lose blood too quickly, the former trainee nurse said.

She said there was no chance of survival.
