It was never confirmed that the child in the CCTV was CC. The timing between the emergence of the CCTV footage and CC being abandoned in a dark show ground would indicate that there is a link, but the link may be one of the vehicles, rather than one of the people. The only reason we ever thought there was a link between GC, drugs and CC's disappearance was that family friends would not shut up and stop putting such ideas out there. We have all been looking for links from the past that may have an impact on this case. Makara posted yesterday that MS had in 2011 faced her 6th drug charge in 4 years. http://www.news-mail.com.au/news/woman-yells-at-cops-magistrate-court-bundaberg/775891/
The only thing I saw that was found about GC was a drunk and disorderly about abusing motorists while drunk. Then there was the drunken fight while the search for CC continued. Without trying to sound too disrespectful, I cant see GC being too involved with drugs and not have convictions for using- not to say he is squeaky clean, but getting rotten drunk and shooting your mouth off does not sound like a good attribute for a "successful" drug addict/supplier.
Interesting that the man arrested has been arrested for burglary. Is this CC's blanky and dog, or was something else missing? These people don't look like they would have had significant assets in the house.
So why take CC? As suggested, a threat/warning to GC? To highlight attention on this family for some reason? Has this guy seen something with this child to make him think it was necessary to remove her from the house? (Most of us would call DoCs....), mental health issues? I wonder if one of his children is the same age as CC or one of her siblings, or if one of his children has died. Targeted for someone else, in a trafficking scenario, then couldn't go through with it? It is all so bizarre.

I find it hard to think that an RSO would brazenly break into someones house and take a child and then drop them back off. It doesn't sound like it fits the description of one. it was also said by the police that CC was a planned abduction. None of this makes any sense.

I agree but the way it was worded (what I quoted above) sounds like they're describing an RSO. But I can't think of any cases where one would just waltz into a neighborhood and take a child out of their home, blanket, toy and all. And then return them?

Hi - first post on this board, but have been following with interest.

I had a quick look at the Qld Criminal Code and it appears:

1. Burglary does not require the offender to steal anything. It is the act of being in the premises with the intent of committing an indictable offence
2. Child stealing is similar to kidnapping. Child stealing just means taking the child, kidnapping involves taking someone with the intent of getting them or someone else to do something.
3. Deprivation of liberty is just holding someone against their will.

I expect the child stealing rather than kidnapping charge is easier to make a case of. All that needs to be proven is the child was taken without the parents' permission. For kidnapping, they need to prove that plus what the kidnapper was trying to achieve by taking the person. Doesn't matter really, the maximum penalty is the same - up to 7 years jail.

I expect the charges laid are just the start, enough to hold the offender on, and more charges will follow when the police establish more about what happened.

Welcome! :seeya:Thanks for your post.
So he may not have stolen anything, besides CC, her blanket and dog.

With this morning's reports telling us the child now can't be named for legal reasons, from here onwards please use initials only.

Is this bc something might have happened? Can't get myself to type it. The charges don't seem to reflect this.

No, it is just because there has been an arrest. Now we can't say any names until court commences. Sub judice is the term if you want to look it up.

Not at all, just that there are lots of laws in Australia about who can be identified after charges have been filed and before a trial starts. It is all to do with the right to a fair trial. Thankfully, it doesn't seem that this little girl suffered that kind of treatment.

No, it's just our laws.

this news article mentions he had a yellow car and that the abduction had nothing to do with drugs, nor did the family know him
just wondering if he was a rso, thats why he was on police radar, and i just heard on the news that it was one piece of info given to police which made them question him, and he admitted taking her.
i dont think she was assaulted though, his charges dont include that.
maybe he could have been planning to later on, or maybe he had been watching the family and thought she could be given a better home?

The little girl's parents, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, insist the man is not known to them and say drugs were not involved.

They are on way their way to court this morning now to see man accused of taking their daughter.

They also thanked the community and emergency services for their help, but criticised the people who accused them of being involved.

Anyone with information which could help police are being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or via crimestoppers.com.au.

So I just came to check in and my heart is sick. :(
Is the reason her name is now being withheld the same reason that many
children's names are with held after being kidnapped?

:(

*****UPDATE*****

An emotional scene outside a Bundaberg Court house after the appearance of the man accused of allegedly abducting a three year old girl from her Childers home last week.

Inside the Courtroom the prosecution told the Magistrate the defendant made admissions to police that he took the girl and brought her back.

The forty five year old sat in the docks attempting to hide his face as the parents of the three year old saw for the first time the man alleged to have held their daughter in his South Isis home for more than forty two hours.

The prosecution told the court the accused had stated he showered the young girl and washed her hair because he was worried about the condition she was in.

Magistrate Deb Vasta adjourned the matter for tomorrow allowing the defended time with a duty lawyer.

Outside the court the three year olds mother broke down.

Snr Const Sperling said fingerprints found at the scene of the alleged abduction matched prints taken from Kane in Maryborough, where he has been accused of committing a break-in at a tennis club at 1.30am yesterday.

When interviewed, Snr Const Sperling said Kane stated "I had to get out of Childers because of the heat".

"The defendant's vehicle was full of his property," she said.

The prosecutor said Kane allegedly went on to make further admissions, including "I took Chloe and brought her back" and that he "felt sorry for the conditions she was living in".

"During investigations at the defendant's address, police have located remains of a fire with remnants of some items in it," she said.

"There is a concern if the defendant is released he will attempt to destroy that evidence."
