The man accused of kidnapping a three-year-old girl from a Childers house last week has appeared in court.
Eden Kane, 45, faced the Bundaberg Magistrates Court briefly on Wednesday morning.
Mr Kane, of South Isis, has been charged with abduction of a child under 16, deprivation of liberty and break and enter.

Folks at this stage the guy has been charged with the following ONLY. There is nothing to suggest there are any "other" charges.

Detective inspector Bruce McNab said the man had been charged with break and enter, child abduction and deprivation of liberty.

His alleged motive will come out in the court process, he said
.

There may not be any "other" charges yet, but I'm very uneasy reading that he gave her a shower. :(

This is the most bizarre case I've seen in a long time. This defendant is saying that he didn't like the way she was being taken care of, so he steals her to clean her teddy bear, give her a shower and bring her back?

It's not adding up.

he was not known to the family but, says he took the sleeping child because he felt sorry for the way she was living, a court has heard.

how did he know where she slept and also the way she was living? Has he been watching the house?

WHAT THE???? Ok that is creeeeepy! :scared:
Not known to the family but takes her because of the living conditions? How does he know about the conditions then?????? This makes me think that we will be seeing more charges unfortunately. JMO.

yet yesterday detectives said it was a "definite targeted attack".

You can't really have one and not the other.

Agreed.

What does "no links to the family" actually mean though? No drug/business link, or that they are complete strangers? Unclear wording.

Google maps shows Rainbows Road South Isis a creepy, remote & isolated farming area.

Was he living or working in the showground and saw CC lifestyle? CC was released at the showground.

"The defendant's vehicle was full of his property," she said.

The prosecutor said Kane allegedly went on to make further admissions, including "I took Chloe and brought her back" and that he "felt sorry for the conditions she was living in".

"During investigations at the defendant's address, police have located remains of a fire with remnants of some items in it," she said.

IMO he was doing a "runner" Thank goodness he was being tracked

When interviewed, Snr Const Sperling said Kane stated "I had to get out of Childers because of the heat".

"The defendant's vehicle was full of his property," she said.

no links to the family probably means they didnt know him but maybe he knew them from some casual encounter, passed them in the shopping centre, saw them outside their place etc and became obsessed with the little girl, started watching them, stalking, hanging around their house etc.
so lucky she was returned seemingly physically unharmed.

One of the articles posted earlier said he was arrested after a break in at a tennis club, and that his fingerprints matched some found on the window sill of CC's home. I figured that was the one piece of evidence that tied him to this crime.

Imagination running wild here regarding him being sorry for CC's living conditions. What if it was initially a break in, and he spotted CC on the floor - I know I was struck by the fact that the mattress on the floor shown in earlier footage was only a single sized one. I wondered how the three girls could all sleep on one small mattress - it would be ok for snuggling up watching tv, but room for all three to sleep comfortably? Maybe CC was not even on the mattress when he entered the house - I can imagine how sad a little girl sleeping on the floor would have looked amidst the disarray of the house (as we also saw in footage)

Yes this fellow is a crook, but perhaps not the sort we were dreading finding out about? Maybe he was a burglar who was touched by a pitiful scene - very misguided (and creepy) of him to take a child in any case. I know it sounds like some sappy story from a bad movie - but who knows? I wonder if this guy is estranged from his own family and in the midst of some sort of emotional breakdown/missing his own kids or something?

It will be interesting to hear what he was attempting to burn at his home - hopefully that will shed more light on what his intentions were. It sounds like he could have been getting rid of either evidence or bad memories.

I am in total shock! That is scary.

I would imagine the drug dealers of Childers won't be happy that they have been brought into all this either.

I wonder if the accused is a bit simple, even childlike himself. He has only one friend on Facebook.

yes, i was wondering if he had become estranged from his own family and missed his children? also wondering, actually hoping there was a woman at the house helping him look after her.
maybe he was burning her sleeping bag?

The blue station wagon with trailer attached watching the family. Showgrounds have toilet & shower blocks & BBQs
I'm hoping a woman could have been with him.

I'm trying to rationalise some good intentions here but I keep getting creepy signals from all sides.

I'm just so grateful, as we all are, that he didn't kill her, and he returned her. That rarely happens. jmo

By the way, just want to say how cool it is to talk with you guys all the way over there in Australia! It reminds me of when I had penpals as a kid. :)
