Australia Australia - Celine Cremer, 31, Belgium backpacker, car found at the Philosopher’s fall track, Waratah, Tasmania, 12 June 2023

  • #61
Recent retracing of Christine Cremer's last known steps according to GPS data in a video by Rob Parsons, a Tasmanian wilderness Youtuber and known associate of the Cremer family who he's voluntarily assisting by investigating, in an effort to ascertain the whereabouts of Christine's remains, the area she was last known to have been, prior to disappearing.
Rob Parson’s retrace and effort was so good. Great work from Ken Gamble too.

Something critical likely occurred at the top of the range. The conditions were life threateningly cold, wet, steep, and exposed and it would have been physically and cognitively brutal for her. If Celine reached that point, the fact that neither she nor her phone moved further suggests she became incapacitated, disorientated and immobilised.
Injury, hyperthermia? They had dogs in the many searches too didn’t they? How has nothing at all been found?

This case is a haunting reminder of how quickly a simple walk can turn tragic in remote wilderness. The Philosopher Falls track is short and well-marked, but venturing off-trail in the Tarkine is perilous. The complete absence of physical evidence is baffling and heartbreaking.

Most evidence I can find seems to support a theory of misadventure, possibly after becoming disoriented. Basing this on:
  • GPS shows erratic movement off-trail.
  • Terrain is confusing and unforgiving.
  • Weather was cold, wet, and snowy—conditions deemed non-survivable by medical experts.
  • No signs of foul play have emerged.
The lack of physical evidence (e.g., clothing, phone, remains) is striking. Even cadaver dogs found nothing. Could she have fallen into a concealed ravine or watercourse?

How has nothing at all been found? My thoughts exactly. They retraced her footsteps to where her phone stopped pinging and there was nothing there- no phone, bag or any trace of her at all. It’s baffling

Maybe the battery went at that point and she carried on?

creepy looking bush walk...I think she perhaps asked someone for directions who didn't have the best intentions...

I don't think it's creepy at all.

It's a beautiful forest with trees, ferns and and streams.

and..? I'm just saying given the context, we have same bush walks where I live and it's breath taking and all but being alone in there was creepy

Hello, I just learned about Celine's case because it was mentioned in a link about another case. This article has quotes from the private investigator searching for her and some photos about both cases. I hope Celine's case is solved very soon.

"Mr Gamble has assisted in several missing persons cases, and is currently working pro bono for the mother of Belgian tourist Celine Cremer, who went missing while hiking in the Tasmanian wilderness in June 2023."

1. could her phone have just lost charge?
2. if not, why didn't she call or text?
3. he is wearing long sleeves, boots, gloves and gaiters.... was she wearing something like shorts, because she would have been all scratched and bleeding.
4. last- how much daylight did she have left?
AND...5. would the streams have been faster and dangerous if it was raining?
AND... snakes? anything that could have bitten her?

I wonder if she had run into some sort of trouble, couldn’t get a solid phone signal, so she tried to walk to an elevated position/clearing and lost her way.

The 3G network was still operational in 2023 but was being phased out, requiring large scale tower upgrades across the country. The deadline was pushed back a few times because telcos and communities needed more time to update handsets, medical alarms and infrastructure.

4G coverage still isn’t 100% now (see attached maps), and may have been worse in 2023. 5G doesn’t seem to be operating in the area yet in 2025.

Mountains, hills and dense forest canopies are enough to cause localised black-spots. 4G and 5G signals are faster, but the radio signals don’t travel as far and wide, requiring more power and cells in order to create similar coverage at better speeds.

The telco maps aren’t reliable coverage indicators either, they are marketing claims. A better predictor is the map of phone towers by each provider, the technology used, your distance and the geography of an area.

I moved to a metro suburb in 2023 where Telstra claims it has 4G/5G coverage. No signal or data at all. I had to change to Optus/Vodaphone because there’s more towers facing the direction of my house. Telstra seemingly decided cells should face inland, instead of my direction which is next to a bay (i.e low population density = low business investment).

This is the latest Rob Parsons video with new evidence showing Celine’s phone was most likely dropped and lost by her just before it got dark and she’s had to choose between backtracking and looking for her phone, or using the last bit of daylight to try to find her way to the main track and her car. She’s chosen the latter and not made it out.

I’m a keen hiker and following Rob Parsons YouTube’s. Im at a loss why no one has found her even given Rob’s and SES extensive searches plus having her GPS locations. No evidence is evidence in itself. To me in that situation, I would definitely head towards where I hear cars, maybe she’s gone up to that hill to get reception and her bearings and she’s heard cars. I think the top of that hill needs to be extensively searched and then a straightish line from there to where the car noises can be heard.

Why did or would Celine leave the Philosopher Falls track, given that it is short, clearly marked, and has boardwalks and signage leading directly to the waterfall lookout?

She should’ve known better . That’s how bushwalkers get lost and die

She may have needed a toilet break and then got disorientated and unable to find her way back to the track.
Or had an accident, a fall or a snake bite.

You'd be surprised. I got lost at night time in the Redwoods forest here in NZ with a glowing lights feature all around me (they attach lights to trees and it feels as though you're inside a club)..It was lucky I had a bunch of parked headlights ahead of me so I could make out where I parked my car and got back on track
